|2||What does God look like?||Bible general Archive 4||BMyers||234943|
|Wanting to know what God looks like is wanting to know what is God's first name....everyone know that God's first name is Andy....
Andy walks with me
Andy talks with me
Andy tells me I'm his own
|3||God, brings wicked to destruction||2 Tim 2:15||BMyers||233927|
|I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by this, I read it several times, but have I;m confused by what he is trying to state.
It almost appears that Herman is trying to state God is evil because He will bring just judgement in the end that leads to destruction of the sinners, but I don't want put words into Mr. Herman's mouth.
|4||Ex 12:29||Ex 12:23||BMyers||233926|
| And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
(Job 1:12 ESV)
Satan is the one who tested Job. God allowed it. Job's friends were sure he had sinned and that is why, but they were proven wrong (Job 42:7-9).
You do understand that the OT people viewed anything bad coming from God as punishement for their sin, which Job shows this not to be true.
|5||Enoch and Elijah didn't see God yet?||John 3:13||BMyers||232516|
|I still disagree with your understanding of the Scriptures. To make John 3:13 fit into your understanding, you have to disregard the other Scriptures that clearly state these individuals did not die.
I have spent some time this evening reading in commentaries, books, and different study Bibles just on John 3:13 and NONE of them come to the conclusion that you have. On page 282 of Figures of Speech Used in the Bible, "It does not deny that men like Enoch and Elijah had been taken up by God, which is a very different thing." (If I knew how to type all the Greek characters and such I would of put in the whole article, which is interesting.)
As far as 2 Chronicles 21:12-15, that is easy, mail service is bad today, what do you think it was like back then! (Just a little humor, my wife is a mail carrier.) Realistically, reading in commentaries, the experts don't agree. It could be the date of his chariot ride occurred after the letter. It could be he sent the letter then was taken up, not like the letters were delivered quickly. So the letter is a non-issue in my book.
I don't pretend to be a Bible Scholar, I only wish I had more time to spend reading and studying the Word. Although I do like a good conversation like this that gets me digging and piling up books all around me.
I will still have to respectfully disagree with you, but unfortunately I just don't have the time or skills to get in-depth. Off to bed, have a long day tomorrow.
|6||Enoch and Elijah didn't see God yet?||John 3:13||BMyers||232502|
|No I don't, but I do see a problem with just completely ignoring the verses that clearly state that Enoch did not die or Elijah went to heaven. So John 3:13 is more important of a verse than the others so we can disregard them? Or maybe we need to look for an explanation that fits all the verses.
In both cases, Enoch and Elijah didn't ascend to heaven, but was taken to heaven. No man can ascend to heaven on his own, only through the power of God.
Couple of websites that explain better than I:
|7||Enoch and Elijah didn't see God yet?||John 3:13||BMyers||232497|
|I find you use of Gen 5:23 interesting. If you note, every other person listed in chapter 5 states that the individual died, with the the exceptation of Enoch.
Hebrews 11:5 very clearly states that Enoch did not die.
By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.
(Hebrews 11:5 ESV)

|9||Everybody dies with recent sins||Bible general Archive 4||BMyers||231572|
|Very well put. I know being raised Pentecostal, I was afraid that I would commit a sin just before I died and not get into heaven.
Once I realized my salvation is based only on my acceptance of God's gift and that God does all the work, it has dramatically changed my view.
I went from looking at God as one who has His finger on the button just waiting to send me to hell, to a Father who has done everything to allow me to join Him.
My relationship changed from a list of I can't do this, to a list of I want to do this.
I don't understand why God loves me the way He does, from my mindset, I could find a whole lot of other people to love rather than me. Yet, He does and I know this because His Word tells me so.
Maybe this children’s song can express it best for me:
Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! This I know,
As He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee,
Saying, “Let them come to Me.”
Jesus loves me when I'm good,
When I do the things I should,
Jesus loves me when I'm bad,
Though it makes Him very sad.
Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way,
Wanting as a friend to give
Light and love to all who live.
Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.
Jesus loves me! Loves me still
Tho' I'm very weak and ill;
That I might from sin be free
Bled and died upon the tree.
Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.

|13||was garden of eden in heaven||Genesis||BMyers||230788|
|Genesis 2:4 is where I believe she is quoting. The NASB has a footnote (a.Genesis 2:4 Lit These are the generations) about the verse and the ESV translates it as "These are the generations
of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.
(Genesis 2:4 ESV)"
Still not following her question though, but I think that is the verse she was referring to.
|14||how many horses did Solomon have??||1 Kings||BMyers||228061|
|It might help if I would quote the correct verse also 1 Kings 4:26, not 5:26. So for the mistype.
1Ki 4:26 Solomon also had 40,000 stalls of horses for his chariots, and 12,000 horsemen.
|15||how many horses did Solomon have??||1 Kings||BMyers||228057|
|1 Kings 5:26 states he had 40,000 stalls of horses. Now I'm not a horseman or a cowboy, but I would believe we could make a safe assumption that he had at least 40,000 horses and depending on the size of the stalls maybe more.
|16||first indication of the holy spirit||2 Tim 2:15||BMyers||227508|
|You know BradK, if those researching God's Word would just ACTS upon the assignment, most answers would only take one or TWO tries to research it and the answers would come RUSHING in like a mighty WIND filling them with knowledge. Yet, further research may even prove there is more to the answer than a riddle spoken in other TONGUES. The blessings students are missing by not doing their own research.
|17||Easter||Bible general Archive 4||BMyers||227413|
|If my memory serves me correctly, the pagan part comes in from the German goddess of fertility (word Easter is believed to have derived from Eostre, a Teutonic goddess of spring and fertility, which is part of the reason for the Easter bunny and the eggs). One can also make the argument that the word Easter did not come from the mistranslation of the word, but was a word that was made to designate the time period of Jesus death and resurrection.

|Thanks for the answer Makarios, but I wan't asking the original question. I was trying to get a clarification from the reagve about what information he/she needed, because as you pointed out the answer could be different individuals depending on what you are looking for.
|20||Are we born a sinner or do we become one||Bible general Archive 4||BMyers||225867|
|Actually, it is both. The Son is the solution for the sin issue. You are correct, Jesus is the propitiation for our sin and this blessing has made available to all who repent and believe.
1Jn 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (ESV)
