Revelation 7:1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind should blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree. 2 And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 3 saying, "Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads." 4 And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel: 5 from the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand, from the tribe of Gad twelve thousand, 6 from the tribe of Asher twelve thousand, from the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand, from the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand, 7 from the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand, from the tribe of Levi twelve thousand, from the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand, 8 from the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand, from the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand, from the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand were sealed. 1 Cor 13:12
|
| |
An indication of continuity between our present bodies and the bodies that we will have is seen in the fact that those believers who remain alive on the day Christ returns will "be changed" - yet their bodies will not be replaced: 1 Cor. 15:51-53.
Jesus says that people will come from East and West and "sit at the table with Abraham, Issac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven": Matt. 8:11.
Matthew also tells us that when Jesus died, "the tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many": Matt. 27:52-53. The fact that these people's actual bodies were raised, and the fact that they appeared to many in Jerusalem, indicates again that there was some continuity between their dead bodies that were in the graves and the bodies that were raised up. Since they came out of the tombs "after his resurrection" we may assume that these also were saints who had recieved resurrection bodies as a kind of foretaste of the final day of glorification when Christ returns. The fact that these people "appeared to many" suggests that they were recognizable - that the people knew who they were.
The evidence is suggestive rather than conclusive, yet it points in the direction of continuity between the body that existed before the resurrection and the one that existed after it. When Elijah appears on the Mount he is recognised. Also significant continuity between Jesus' body before and after the resurrection is seen in the fact that even the nail prints in his hands and feet and the wound in his side remained in his resurrection body. John 20:20, 27. |

Is "Paradise" the same as heaven? |
|
|
|
Luke 23:43
|
| |
Paradise is not the same as heaven. Paradise was an underground compartment that was a place of comfort called Abraham's bosom (Luke 16:22) where all the Old Testament saints who had accepted the Lord were kept after death, awaiting the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Across from paradise was a place of agony, and between the two, God placed a chasm that was fixed so one could not pass over to the other. The good news is that when Jesus Christ died and was buried in the heart of the earth, he wasn't just lying there. He was conqueroring sin and death so that you and I may live with him in heaven for eternity. And when it was finished, I can just imagine Jesus handing the saints the keys to the kingdom of heaven just as he described to Peter in Matt. 16:19.
I suppose the theif on the cross didn't have a very long stay in paradise.
Revelation 1:18 says that Jesus Christ still holds the keys of death and Hades. Eventually, these people will be thrown into the lake of fire.
Say yes to Jesus Christ. He is a free gift. God is a God of love, but he is also just. |

In Eph 4:8-10 it says that Jesus first descended and then ascended into heaven leading a host of captives. So, I believe that these were Old Testament saints that were waiting for the promise. Jesus went to Sheol, and explained what He had done and then led them to Heaven with Him. |

Commentary on Luke 4:1-13 |
|
|
|
Luke
|
| |
Matthew 4:1-3
Satan's temptations used against Christ are similar to those used against Eve.
1) Appeal to physical appetite (fruit vs. bread)
2) Appeal to personal arrogance (Will not die vs. Will not hurt Your foot)
3) Appeal to power and glory (be like God vs. Have all worlds kingdoms)
Satan's temptation of Christ is a
"Matter of comfort to all the saints. In the temptation of Christ it appears, that our enemy is subtle, spiteful, and very daring in his temptations; but it appears withal, that he is not invincible. Though he is a strong man armed, yet the Captain of our salvation is stronger than he. It is some comfort to us to think that Christ suffered, being tempted; for thus it appears that temptations, if not yielded to, are not sins, they are afflictions onlyHenry, Matthew, Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Bible, (Peabody, MA: Hendrickson Publishers) 1991.
Matthew 4:1
Note that Jesus is tempted immediately after a great revelation and testimony by God the Father about who He is and how the Father feels about Him. God may often allow Satan to tempt us immediately after a high point in our lives as a way of both humbling and testing our reliance upon the Spirit of God. Prhaps God was also showing us that the best inner defense against the attacks of the devil is to remember our sonship in the family of God.
Jesus was tempted while he was alone in the wilderness. A place of solitude is perfect for spending time with the Lord, but it is also a perfect opportunity for Satan to attack. We must be on our guard when we are alone and Satan has opportunities to make our thoughts wander, often followed by deeds which we would NEVER do if we were in the presence of others. Even in prayer, how often have our thoughts been pulled aside to other things besides the Lord?
Jesus was led by the Spirit to be tempted. God will never to do this to us (James 1:13). God led Jesus to this in order to show Satan that He was defeated. Jesus was not able to give into that temptation and sin. Such is not the position of believers. Our response should be to pray that we will not be lead into temptation (Matt 6:13). Cetainly God will never tempt us, only our own lusts and desires (James 1:14). God may allow us to be tempted for purpose of testing, but it is not something we should desire. If God leads us there, then we need to depend on Him, but we should not tempt Satan to tempt us, for God may very well leave us to our own strength at that point. Satan is not to be taken lightly.
Matthew 4:2
Jesus only became hungry AFTER 40 days and 40 nights without food? Clearly He is no ordinary man.
Matthew 4:3
Notice the timing of Satan and his temptation. He did not tempt Jesus while he was in the desert for forty days, only after. One of Satan's attacks is to attempt to take advantage of our outward condition. He watches carefully for what opportunities present themselves. What about a man whose family is starving - is it OK for him to steal to keep them from dying? What should he do? Our outward condition is no excuse to go against the commands and the will of God. As Christians, then, we must be aware of others needs around us and make sure we do what we can to help them.
Note secondly the method of attack:
1) He attempts to cause Jesus to question His relationship to the Father, His Sonship. He wants Jesus to question the goodness of God in leaving Him in this position. The Spirit testifies that we are God's children (Romans 8:16), while Satan, the accuser of the brethren, constantly refutes the claim.
2) Satan uses our physical conditions and circumstances to attempt to make us believe that God has left us, does not really love us, is not really good. When a crisis arrives, we MUST work to see Satan's role and refute him.
3) The Devil aims to shake our faith in the word of God, and bring us to question the truth of that. He did it to Adam and Eve, he tries it here with Jesus. God had just said "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.", and yet Satan says "If You are the Son of God...". If we ever question any part of the Word of God, we are giving Satan an opportunity.
4) Satan wants us to act based on our own will, not that of God. Notice that he is crafty in that he tempts Jesus to do something that He has the power to do. Just because we CAN do something, does not mean that we SHOULD. How subtle it is for him to get us to do something Godly against the will of God! Satan wanted Jesus to act on His own. He does not say, Pray to your Father that he would turn them into bread; but command it to be done. We must likewise be careful not to rely on our own desires, even good ones, or our own abilities, even our spiritual gifts, to do things which are not motivated by the will of God. |

Rapture - Bodies or souls disappear? |
|
|
|
Matt 24:27
|
| |
The Rapture and the Glorious Appearing are two different events. Left Behind is talking about the Rapture, Matthew 24 is talking about the Glorious Appearing. Our bodies will disappear on the day the Rapture takes place or there will be no mystery for those who are left behind. If the bodies are left they will only think we have died but we will be very much alive. We will have our bodies with us they just will not be the corruptible bodies we have now. Remember when Jesus rose from the dead and he went back to the house where the disciples were? He just appeared in the room but he could be touched(Luke 24:39). Matthew 24 is saying that every eye will see him when he returns. The Rapture is only for the saints, so only we will see him in the sky. The Glorious Appearing is for Judgment this is when we the saints that were raptured return with him to Judge the world(those left behind that did not get saved during the tribulation period). This computer won't leave me alone enough to type all the scriptures that go with the different events so I will send them later if you are interested. |

Thank you for challenging me to look the urantia book up. It was very informative. It kind of reminded me of L.Ron Hubbard's Dianetics mixed with the teachings of the church latter-day saints (mormons). I can't say that I agree with your assesment of it value, however. 2 Cor 11:14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. (NAS;lockman foundation)
The most effective lie, is that which contains some truth in it. I believe that the Urantia Book is clever scheme of our adversary, the devil, to distract us from truly finding the truth. John 8:31-32 ( So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." NAS;lockman foundation)
Joseph Smith had a vision. He was visited by the angel moroni, this angel gave him instructions to write what became known as the book of mormon. I believe Joseph. I think he did see an angel. However, I believe he saw a fallen angel, a demon. 1 Tim 4:1 "But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons" (NAS;lockman foundation)
We need to be carefull what we accept as truth and test everything.
1 John 4:1 "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."(NAS;lockman foundation)
I am willing to listen to any biblical evidence that you have that might support your theories on the book of urantia being part of "Holy Scripture".

Where are guardian angels mentioned? |

Dear HeirofGod, You imply that I do not believe that we are protected by angels. Where do you get that? I simply cannot find any Bible verse that suggests a specifically, personally, permanently assigned angel for me or for anyone. I know that this might give one comfort, much like a teddy bear, but it is not Bible. Please read my words: I am aware that angels, as Gods servants, provide protection for His saints (including me and including you). This is Bible. I personally can testify to Divine intervention and protection before I was saved and after. Knowing that God is aware of all things and able to send His agents to help me whenever I need help is enough, without creating a 'personal lifeguard.' If you choose to believe in such a creature, or teach your children in 'Guardian Angels,' fine. In Christ Jesus. |

What is the spiritual gift of faith? |
|
|
|
1 Cor 12:9
|
| |
A most excellent answer! Charis, yours is a very well thought out and well put answer. I agree with you: The Holy Spirit distributes spiritual gifts to each one individually as He (the Holy Spirit) wills (see 1 Cor 12:11.) The gifts are not given primarily to glorify or build up the individual who is given the gift. Rather they are to be excercised in love (1 Cor 13 and 14) and are for the purpose of "equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ" (Eph 4:12 NKJV). Finally, 1Co 14:40 (KJV) "Let all things be done decently and in order."

Guffaw! LOL! RoFL! I just looked up Luke 14:2. Howl! Cacchination! (regaining composure) chuckle, chuckle.
This discussion reminds me of me. Bless both of you saints. I am not Calvin's disciple, nor am I his 'pendulum swing' opposite number, Arminus' follower. I think both these guys let brains and brawn get out of hand, and denied the Spirit. I read with great interest these comments, and quite a few others in this line. I despise compromise for the sake of 'making everybody happy,' because obviously you cannot. However, I do believe the truth in this matter probably incorporates both arguments, in a much simpler manner than we are accustomed to. If Jesus were asked, He might answer, "Who?" Much in the same way, Paul asked, "Apollos who? Paul who?" (I Corinthians 3:4-9) Perhaps the word 'Election' with a capital "E" is the problem, or at least a great contributor. In a general sense, I must believe that God, without favor, offers the hope of salvation to all, regardless (irregardless? There IS such a word) of gender, race, location or situation. Knowing all things, God knows who will 'be there' at the final trumpet. There are there by His Grace, and by His grace alone. But those there DID respond, hopefully (a disjunct) with alacrity and continued response. We do seem to have an 'unforgivable sin' in Matthew 12 (unless of course believers are not believers without the Holy Spirit, assuming that everyone receives 'automatically'), but this can't be too easy to do, or none of us will qualify for 'election.' This is why, from a layman's point of view, I cannot accept 'once-saved-always-saved.' Surely, from God's divine viewpoint this may be true, but to us here, now, it is ludicrous. It is only to easy to say, "Right. Like Jim Jones." Our 'righteousness' of looking at things from God's eyes (impossible, anyway) alienates us from the down-to earth reality that most people perceive. Of course, I do not promote becoming an 'air-head' or 'loose-minded, loose-moraled(sorry)' emotional nitwit. (i.e. "Of course, a truly nice god would save EVERYBODY!") I do believe there is a balance. In my Bible, and in my heart (through the Spirit), I believe I am 'called.' Not only called to a specific ministry within His church, but generally called to be His. Thank You, Jesus. I know that I am stating both cases, indeed, this is my intent. I see, very clearly, pertinent arguments from both camps. Is it possible that both are valid, with a bit of moderation and the revelation of the Holy Spirit? I believe so! I would not want to 'wake up' in the Holy Presence, and find that one group or another was 'missing.' Please understand that I do not mean the same for all fringe aberrations of faith. Some will be shown to be just plain wrong. But, in this case, and perhaps several others, adjustment is necessary, not a total revamp. "...Let God is true, and all men liars..." Romans 3:4 May the peace AND truth be upon us all, in Christ Jesus. |

...by His grace, right? jg8ball, I couldn't help adding this to the end of your note. It IS true, even if it is not Election with a capital 'E' (...which rhymes with 'P' which means 'Pool!' Sorry, we were watching "The Music Man" the other day :-) In any case, I fully expect to see jg8ball and JVH0212 together as brethren someday in His glorious eternity. That's my point. I cannot discard wholesale either opinion or bent, and I cannot endorse in the Lord any capital 'X' doctrine. How then should we live? Excommunicating one another is an option, but I don't think it is Godly. Discussion, prayer, humility, repentance toward God, and fellowship of the saints is the option I choose. With love in Christ Jesus. |

Dear Joseph, the answer is No. The question is, "Were you looking for a particular answer?" You got the answers you got because of your ambiguous question. If you want to discuss this with those of your own thinking, use personal email. We have been invited by our hosts to a Christian Bible Forum, for the edification of the saints, with views and commentary by ALL for ALL. I can imagine that some Christians new to their faith would be thrilled to see lively discussion, but disappointed to see petty bickering among mature men of the Word. The best way you can show forth your bent, is to use the Bible clearly, use common sense, and show a little honor and dignity. (and maybe a wee bit of humor :-) With love in Christ Jesus. |

Still...can WE know this? |
|
|
|
Hebrews
|
| |
Dear JVH0212, I very much agree with you that Hebrews 6:4 seems to say that one cannot be 'born again again.' My question was not disputing this at all, nor was I trying to put words in your mouth. The following: "This much is clear: whoever openly and consciously rejects Jesus Christ is unregenerate even if he seemed to have been saved earlier." (note at Heb. 6:4ff, NRSV Harper Study Bible) was also written in your statement, "Once lost, always lost." This is clearly a statement to us, because of the word 'seemed.' God knows, there is no 'seemed' to Him. Unless I misread this quote from Harper's note, it implies that men with limited knowledge, relying on their senses and instincts, which sometimes fail, are to discern when someone is fallen, by observing if the said person 'openly and conciously rejects Jesus.' My question simply asked if WE have this kind of righteousness? Ideally, the church is made of saints of integrity and Holy Spirit revelation to discern such evil people. But to 'proclaim' them as 'unregenerate' and condemn the possibility of salvation in them seems to be out of our area of authority. When we begin to label people in this manner, we usurp God's vantage, and COULD do a great disservice to someone God MAY forgive. There are several examples in the Old Testament that would back this up (David certainly comes to mind), and I cannot imagine that the New Testament expounds a more severe judgement than the Old Testament. To sum up, I believe that your comments regarding Hebrews 6 are true, but we on earth do not have the authority to act upon this judgement. In Christ Jesus.

Who has Eternal Insecurity? |
|
|
|
Hebrews
|
| |
A true statement of faith, my brother. But (seems like I read that word a lot around here :-), unfortunately, there are a lot of people who have not yet achieved that level of faith. Many Christians I have met in the country of my calling (Japan), and many Christians I have met in the country of my birth (U.S.A.), struggle with their faith. Though 'knowledge' is imparted from the pulpit and in Bible Study, some are not as capable as you and I to apply it to their lives. Those whose faith is weak are dogged by sin, and the world around them desires to steal as much faith as possible from them. It would be easy to just say, "They are weak, maybe they are not of Jesus." But I can find no Scripture that supports my giving up on them. I believe we are to proclaim the Gospel to the lost, and to the weak (some might say 'marginal') Christian alike. It is possible that the fellowship you enjoy contains no 'doubters' or weak-of-faith, that all your brothers and sisters-in-Christ have absolute eternal security. I have met few who could claim eternal security moment-to-moment, day-to-day, for all their Christian life. Yes, I have known those who put on a good facade, but their actions betray them at times. Eternal Security is a doctrine which I believe in, a theology I study, a faith I hold dear in my heart, and a topic I speak of often. Sadly, though, it is not a reality to many. I cannot condemn those who have not yet found this gift, but only encourage them to continue their pursuit of it. It must be real to THEM, not pie-in-the-sky, or for 'others.' I guess it is my method to meet-them-where-they-are, and help them rise up. I know I was blessed by many very patient saints when I was first saved. In Jesus. |

Acts 2:1
|
| |
On the day of Pentecost,as Jesus stated, He sent the Holy Spirit to the disciples. "Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them and rested on each of them. They were at this time filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues. In 1 Cor 14 Paul teaches about the gift of tongues. He states that those who speak in tongues do not talk to others but to God and nobody understands them.
(v.2) and that the speech is unintelligible (v.9).
In 1Cor.13:1 Paul speaks of talking with the tongues of men and angels which indicates that languages other than the human language may be inspired by the Holy Spirit. Paul also lists tongues as one of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit (1Cor 12:10).
In Mark 16:17, Mark tells us that Jesus gave us a promise - "and those who believe; by using my name will speak in tongues".
In Eph 6:18 Paul tells us to pray in the Spirit in every prayer and supplication.
In Romans 8:26 - 27 Paul states that "the Spirit helps us in our time of weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we should" and that very Spirit intercedes for the saints with sighs too deep for words." God understands what we don't.
In Isaiah 28:11 Isaiah prophesies concerning tongues. He tell us that "He will speak with an alien tongue". |

Rev 7:1

Yes, the Lord is merciful and people will have a second chance to be saved during the tribulation.
1Thes 4:16-17 says that the dead in Christ will rise first and then we that remain shall be caught up together with them to meet Christ in the air. So here it says that all believers will be gone. Yet in Revelation 13:7 it says that the beast will be allowed to make war on the saints. This has to refer to the saints who are on earth. Verse 17 talks of those who do not receive the mark of the beast will not be able to buy or see. Those who do not receive the mark are the "tribulation saints"
Rev 19:9 states "Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast. Those who were raised in the rapture are the Bride of Christ so we can't be the guests - it must be the tribulation saints.
There will be no second chance AFTER death which is what 2Thes 2:10-13 is referring to. There is always a chance to be saved before physical death. Those who wait until after the rapture, if death does not claim them first, will have a chance at salvation but will have to endure the terrors of the tribulation talked about throughout the book of Revelations. |

No hope for unity of faith? |
|
|
|
Hebrews
|
| |
Is there no hope for unity of faith? My esteemed (esteamed? :-) colleagues, I believe there is one possibility. Many years ago a present-day prophet spoke over me that I was a dreamer, but my dreams would come to pass. I envision a day when the Lord does bring us together, maybe even before His glorious return. I agree that this cannot be done by the present system of church organization. (or should I say division?) An appropriate scripture might be, "'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the Lord of hosts." Zechariah 3:6-4:10 Now I understand that these are commonly considered post-return scriptures, but I am not quite done. Paul spoke as if there was a method to bring us together. "But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift... And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ...from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love." Ephesians 4:7-16 NASB I read here that just maybe the Lord is able to bring us together by adherence to His original plan of church leadership. I am not suggesting a 'super denomination.' This was not His intent. I am speaking of a simpler situation in which each local church serves the Lord autonomously with some (limited) spiritual oversight from the above ministers. As I said, it is a dream, not something I have 'worked out.' Though difficult to imagine, I believe the Bible says it is possible, AND better than what we have now. I cannot believe that our differences 'will never cease.' (kind of defeatist, don't you think?) I welcome comments. In Jesus |

What are the seven seals? |
|
|
|
Revelation
|
| |
Paul in his vision on the island of Patmos states that he "saw in the right hand of the one seated on the throne a scroll written on the inside and on the back it was sealed with seven seals." (Rev 5:1) The seven seals were all forms of judgement and are the first of three seven-part judgements. Each seal is opened by Christ and sets in motion the events that will an end to human history. The contents of the scroll reveal mans corrupt and perverted morals and show Gods authority over the events of human history. The seven seals contain the following:
Seal 1: A white horse with the rider carrying a bow and a crown. It came out to conquer.
Seal 2: A bright red horse - it's rider was allowed to take peace from the world.
Seal 3: A black horse with the rider holding a pair of scales in its hand. The scale symbolizes a scarcity of food.
Seal 4: A pale green horse, its rider's name was Death and Hades followed with him. They will kill 1/4 of the worlds population.
Seal 5: Tells of the cries of the slain tribulation martyrs. They were each given a white robe and told to wait a little longer.
Seal 6: Opening of this seal will produce a mighty earthquake, the moon will become red, the stars of the sky will fall, and the sun will darken. The sky will vanish and every mountain and island will be moved.
Seal 7: There will be 1/2 hour pause before the judgement of the 7th seal. 7 trumpets were given to 7 angels standing before the throne. Another angel came and was given a great quantity of incense to offer with the prayers of the saints. Then the angel took the censer filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth and there was thunder, lightning and an earthquake.
Seals 1-6 are found in Revelations 6, Seal 7 is found in Revelation 8. |

hi i feel your question is a bit deeper than it seems you can look at the bible and the answer is in Revelations, any one in Christ being a new creature is and having overcome REV 21:7 that is by Jesus' Righteousness not ours, is the bride of Christ but they have to be in Spirit. because the ones that are alive are his body and He is the head .1 corr 12:27.now if you do a word study on marriage you will find out the mystery of God and the church and the family "the key is always to find Jesus in all things" ie: how is marriage like God? the "pure in heart shall see God." can you see God in marriage? Father Mother and Children. and Father, Holy Spirit and Jesus the firstborn. When we are to spend eternity with Jesus and God we will be one flesh with Jesus that is all saints from all times shall be the Bride. i hope that helps .this just touches the surface i pray that the Holy Spirit reveals Jesus in all things to you. |

Personal Introduction Services? Dear Cking_Hisface, Though this is in the 'questions' column, that is for the purpose of letting all the participants of this forum see it. I am listing my Hotmail address so that any of you may contact me. I am volunteering my services to act as contact manager. If you want to contact me, or any other saint or saints in this forum that have sent me their personal email, I will forward messages anonymously, without publishing it to this forum. That is what 'Nakoudo' means, a go-between. If you have specific instructions about how to use or protect your address, please tell me your preferences. In Christ Jesus,

Dear SSprln, I couldn't help but jump in. I don't think that anyone is implying that the Doctor is not a man of God or inaccurate. But it is true that his books tilt toward sensationalism. He, like many modern ministers, uses emotions to get your attention. This is entertainment. One thing though, adding little titles after your name is not proof of godliness or truth. Paul probably had more 'credits' than that, and he 'counted all as loss.' Peter probably had none, but he knew Jesus. Frankly, I would count personal service to the saints in a local church as of more value in God's sight than a thousand doctorates or books or shows. Comments?
Blessings in Christ Jesus. |

Greetings, Ray V.H., (and all the saints following this line of discussion) I was new to computers myself, not too long ago. I was 'elected' to learn about them in order to keep our school computers running. The 'smiley' is an emoticon. There are lots I don't know, but I like 'smiley' and 'winky' ;-), with an occasional frown :-(. A GPF is a Windows term, meaning 'General Protection Fault,' or sometimes lovingly BSoD, 'Blue Screen of Death.' This usually means that your PC is in terminal confusion, and even if it says PAK, 'Press Any Key,' your unsaved data is toast (forfeit). When a person GPFs, it means that a 'restart' is in order, or restate in simpler langauge. (of course, we all know that Macs, and Mac users, never have any problems ;-) Some other terms you might want to know are BTW, 'by the way,' LOL, 'laughing out loud,' ROFL (sometimes ROTFL), 'rolling on the floor, laughing.' One important point of 'Netiquette' is that ALL CAPS means 'shouting' or 'screaming,' and is rude. Lately, all small-case and inane contractions are popular, but (to me) that is just 'illiterate' or 'immature.' Please note that all do not share my opinions ;-) As to your desire to 'more correctly' capitalize or not capitalize, I would say that when preaching or discussing the exposition of scripture, this is a good, even healthy thing. I often find myself modifying (very carefully!) the capitalization or punctuation. (Especially when I am explaining the meaning of the Japanese Bible translation, which tends to be more traditional than accurate) However, I believe a 'movement' to get your modifications incorporated into the 'next' version of the NASB will be unfruitful, unless you are recognized as one of the contributors of a following translation effort. I am satisfied with the NASB, as I believe it to be as close to perfect as was possible at the time. As with any revelation, the Holy Spirit will continue to 'adjust' our understanding to His thoughts. Bless your work in Jesus' name. |

Dear SSprin: Charis has answered the question re Van Impe better than I could. So in answer to your question, I will take the liberty of quoting him:
. . . "Note: Dear SSprln, I couldn't help but jump in. I don't think that anyone is implying that the Doctor is not a man of God or inaccurate. Mathew 11 : 11,Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist.
What does this mean ? What about all the old testment saints ? In what sense are they inferior ? |

John the Baptist was an important vehicle for the kingdom of God for he introduced the people to the Lamb of God. But they didn't come out to see John but they came to see the Prophet, Jesus. Luke 7:27 "This is the One about whom it is written, 'Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way before You.' (The capital 'O' is my interpretation, apologies to anyone who knows me).
Could Jesus have gone on to say that anyone who is least in My kingdom is greater than he? I think so. rvh
