Actually 6 days, the Bible says in
(Gen 1:1 KJV) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
The first chapter of Genesis tells us day by day what was made, ending each time with and the evening and the morning was (x) for the number of the day.
God did not give a name to each of the first 6 days only a number, he did give a name to the 7th day he named it the Sabbath day.
Now last verse in Ch. 1
(Gen 1:31 KJV) And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Notice it says God saw every thing that he had made, and it was VERY GOOD…
(Gen 2:1 KJV) Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
(Gen 2:2 KJV) And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

Tradition has it that Jesus rose from death on the third day, being crucified on Friday and rising on Sunday. However, it's very possible (and even probable) that Jesus was actually crucified on a Wednesday, which was then followed by the 7th day of the Passover, which was a special Holy Day (see Exodus 12:16-18). He would then have remained in the tomb 3 complete days (sunset Wednesday to sunset Saturday, then on into early Sunday morning) before rising on the "first day of the week" -- the timing of which is clearly stated in the gospels and recognized by all.
Although this is contrary to the image that we often have of the events, John's gospel appears to indicate fairly clearly (in John 19:30-32) that the Sabbath after Christ's crucifixion was actually a special holy day (presumably one of those associated with the Passover) rather than simply the 7th-day-of-the-week weekly Sabbath.
This is not some wild new idea of my own imagination. There have been respected theologians who have advocated this, and I have heard at least one current and respected teacher (Charles Swindoll) advocate such a timing of events, as well.
Just as in the legend that has grown up around Jesus's birth (arriving in Bethlehem the very night of his birth, magi at the manger rather than a house or inn, etc.), there are traditions that have become treated as actual in the crucifixion story as well. They don't seem to me to be harmful enough misunderstandings to be fought against, but it's worth bringing out their limitations from time to time. |

The Bible tells us to remember tha Sabbath and keep it holy...we should do all our work in 6 days and rest on the 7th day. It never said which 6 days to work. (If I am wrong, someone please correct with the scriptural reference.) Neither does is explicitly say which day to worship. (Again, if I am wrong...)We are having this same discussion at church. I am of the belief that if you set aside at least one day for the Lord...give it all to Him, then you are ok. |

The Bible specifically says on the seventh day. The nation Israel always kept the sabbath on Saturday. There was never any confusion over which day was meant. Who changed the Sabbath from Sat. to Sun.? No one changed it. Christians are not keeping the sabbath (meant to be a day of complete rest for man and beast). Rather we celebrate Sunday as the Lord's Day. It has nothing whatever to do with the Sabbath. . . . Another excellent quote on the subject comes from the note at Matt 12:1 in the New Scofield Reference Bible, Oxford, 1967, part of which I present here. (The entire summary footnote on the subject of the Sabbath is well worth reading.) I quote:

The Sabbath "was observed by complete rest (Ex 35:2-3)...Apart from maintaining the continued burnt offering and its connection with the annual feasts, the seventh-day Sabbath was never made a day of sacrifice, worship, or any manner of religious service. It was simply and only a day of complete rest for man and beast, a humane provision for man's needs." Bear in mind, Scofied is not referring to any tradition of man, but only to what the Bible actually SAYS about God's institution of the seventh-day Sabbath in the Mosaic Law. |

Dear TerryM, If I get the gist of your note correctly, are you saying that any day of the week is fine, as long as we have one day off? Just having the 'day off' was not the purpose of the Sabbath, nor is it worthy of the day of the Lord we presently enjoy. Serving God is the purpose. Now, if you and all your fellowship have Thursday off from work every week forever, you might have a case, but even then you would be limiting your congregation to being 'the Church of Thursday.' This would definitely not be mainline, in fact, it might be considered offline. It makes a lot of sense to adjust your faith life to serve God on Sunday, when a great deal of the rest of the planet takes a day off :-)

The 7th day Sabbath is a part of the 10 commandments. It points to God has our creator. The claim that we no longer have to observe it is nonsense. Christ himself observed it. He said He was Lord of the Sabbath. The Apostles kept it long after Jesus death and ressurection. And it is still binding today. God never changes, no shadow of turning. It is in the heart of His royal law, the foundation of His government in heaven and on earth. Read the book of James concerning breaking just one of the commandments, we become guilty of them all. As far as the day of the week. Look at your calander what day is the first day of the week? Sunday. what day is the 7th day of the week. Saturday. God created the sabbath day at creation. As a day of rest for man. To honor and worship the creator. The Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath.

Jesus spoke clearly of the hypocrisy of the supposed 'Sabbath-keepers' on many occasions. He spoke of common sense and holy attitude, both of which the 'leaders of the Jews' lacked. Jesus rose on the first day of the week, and we celebrate that and honor it in our hearts, not in a 'legal' manner. Sister TerryM said it best, "The Bible says give of the first fruits of your labor." This is an attitude of honor and worship, supeceding the letter of the Law, which has been clearly abolished. I, personally, consider Saturday to be a day of thanksgiving and preparation, but Sunday is His day, and I offer that day as a sacrifice of my heart, and worship and praise Him, Lord and Savior. Friend, your insistence on Saturday worship suggests a bent of religious legalism, rather that a humble conviction of truth. If this is, indeed, your Christian heart, and the 'traditions of man' play no part in your thinking, then God bless you in it.

The FIRST day of the week is SUNDAY. Start with Sunday as the first day of the week, OK? 1) Sunday. 2) Monday. 3) Tuesday. 4) Wednesday. 5) Thursday. 6) Friday. 7) _______ (fill in the blank). What day would be the 7th day?
If you still don't understand, ask a rabbi. The Jewish people have celebrated SATURDAY AND SATURDAY ONLY as the Sabbath for three thousand, five hundred (3,500) years. This isn't rocket science. |

Gods Holy Torah (Law) is not abolished. Math 5:17.

Dear fliha, You are correct that Jesus rebuked the hypocrisy of the oral law, but He also rebuked the attitude of Israel toward the written law. Our Lord spoke repeatedly to discern and obey the intent of the Law. Indeed, as a Jew living in Israel, He was obliged to obey the Law, but this was a matter of His heart. Look at the case of the adulterous woman; by Law, He should have been throwing stones at her. In fact, his words to the hypocrites saved her, and gave her new life. As the only sinless Person present, He had every right to 'cast the first stone,' and by Law, was bound to do so. He taught us a new law under a new covenant. A superior covenant. Even if you are a Jew living in Israel today, the majority of the Law has been done away with. He is the Lord of the Sabbath, giving us a new rest and a new peace. This comes not from satisfaction of the Law, but from a heart toward God, like David. The ultimate law of grace was active by faith since Abraham, and is now poured forth in the fulness of Christ. As Paul said, why would we want to return to be bound by something that no person was able to keep. Pride in keeping the Sabbath and a few other select laws does not make anyone righteous. If you feel better going to church on Saturday, convinced that your form of Christianity is superior, wonderful! Please remember, though, that attempting to 'keep' one portion of the Law binds you to the whole of it.
We are free to obey His commandments and to live in them.

Why the 7th day bent? |

In the beginning,God created heaven and the earth in 6 literal days, on the 7th day He rested, and made this day Holy. God new that man needed a day of rest (sabbath means rest) to renew,rest,worship and remember Him as God and creator. God reaffirmed this to Moses with the ten commanment law written with His own finger,engraved in stone.(the only scripture that was not given through men).
What day is the Sabbath day? Saturday. Read the account of the crucifixion in the book of Luke. Christ was crucified on Friday( the preperation day),rested on the sabbath day in the tomb,(saturday),and arose on the first day of the week(sunday). Christ kept the sabbath,even in his death. The apostles kept the sabbath,even Paul. He taught the Jews and the Gentiles alike on the sabbath day.
Sould we keep the Sabbath today? Yes! I challenge anyone to show me from scripture where God changed the day to sunday.(first day of the week)
How did the change take place? Study chruch history. It happened during roman times when the church and government became one. During the reign of Constintine,(a pagan and nominal christian), who worshiped the sun.there festival day was sunday (the venerable day of the sun).In order to unite the empire,with the churches apostasy,to incorporate the pagans into the chruch (along with many of there practices and idol worship),the day was slowly changed to sunday.
Will we keep the Sabbath in the future? Read the book of Isa.66th chapter.verses22-23. Yes we will.
Gods ten commandment laws have not changed nor will they change.
Was this part of the law given by inspiration through Moses? No. the mosaic law and ordinances were nailed to the cross with Christ. He was the fulfilment of these. The Sabbath is Gods seal ( as mentioned many times in scripture) His rightful
claim as God and creator. How can someone justify pulling the 4th commandment out of the ten commandments and and deceide not to keep that one command. Would it be ok to not keep "thou shalt not Murder",or say "thou shalt no commit adultery"
its that one ok not to keep. You can try and explain it away anyway you like. The facts are as they stand.Sunday keeping is a product of man,not Gods plan for us.
