  What are the seven seals?
Revelation
THE SEVEN SEALS ARE GOD'S JUDGMENTS ON THE EARTH IN THE TRIBULATION PERIOD. THE SEVEN SEALS CONTAIN 7 TRUMPETS AND THE SEVEN TRUMPETS CONTAIN THE SEVEN BOWLS.

Can you recommend a good study guide for the book of Revelation?
  Good study guide for Revelation?
Revelation
I just last year did a study on the book of Revelation, and I used a study guide called: "God's Word for the Biblically-Inept" which is a new series from Starburst Publishers. I found it very easy to use, but I think it left me asking more questions about the book of Revelation at the end of the study. I would recomend it for someone new to Bible study.
  Good study guide for Revelation?
Revelation
The study of the Book of Revelation is complex, and any guide should be tailored to the maturity of the student.
To get a good grasp on Revelation I would suggest a good grasp of the Book of Daniel, which sets the stage for understanding God's plan of the ages. Without knowing your level of Biblical maturity I would suggest that you obtain a copy of the Scofield Reference Bible, on which I cut my own eye teeth. It is a good tool for any Bible study.

Based upon Revelation 21:8ff I would gather that this is the "NEW JERUSALM" which believers would be a part. Therefore, the bride of Christ would be the "CHURCH".

Revelation
Elijah, are you kidding? No one has ever done it, but maybe I can help you? I hope you are saying that we can discuss it here and maybe clarify some specific areas through this forum. Yes there are lots of commentaries, but the best is the Bible. Take your time. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. A study Bible will give you a good start. Click one of the tabs at the top of this page. My own advice: if someone professes to 'understand' the Book of Revelation, watch out! Ask if they are affiliated with the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Seventh Day Adventists, the Unification Church (Moonies),or any other cult. Look at their eyes when they answer! May the Lord lead your path, and guard your soul in Him. In Christ Jesus.
WHY DOSE IT HAVE TO BE MOSSES AND ELIJAH
Revelation
Dear Dan, Please onlock the Caps key. All capitals is hard to read! My question: Have you been reading, by any chance, the 'Left Behind' series? Blessings in Jesus' name!
  BEST COMMENTARY ON REVELATION?
Revelation
To answer your question, first I would like to point out: 1)The Bible is its own best interpreter. 2) The BEST COMMENTARY is a good translation.

. . . Now to answer your question more specifically, my opinion (and you did ask a subjective question -- there could be no such thing as an objective answer to your question), my opinion is this: I don't know about the best verse by verse commentary on the book of Revelation.

. . . However, the study Bible that provides the most extensive, thorough, Scripture-based, detailed commentary on every page of the Bible, including the Book of Revelation, is: The MacArthur Study Bible, by John MacArthur, author and general editor, published by Word Publishing, copyright 1997.

. . . To me, this Study Bible is like a one-volume commentary that includes the text of the Bible on each page. Nothing wrong with that. It goes right along with the author's stated purpose in writing this work.

. . . (MacArthur is in the process of writing single volume commentaries on books of the Bible. He may have already completed the one on Revelation.)

. . . None of us would agree on every last explanatory note in any Study Bible or commentary. But bear in mind, this man, a pastor, has studied the Bible 30 hours a week for 30 years in the original languages.

Check it out for yourself at your favorite Christian bookstore. If it's not for you, well, maybe another forum member will suggest one you will like.

Thanks for your question. Hope you'll find my reply helpful. Hope you like this forum and will come back often.

Revelation
If Elijah is indeed the Elijah of the OT come back to earth, then I guess he has earned the right to make such an absolute declaration as "No one has ever done it."

...However, being a mere mortal, I was constrained to include in my answer the phrase, "In my opinion."

Bless us, Charis. Elijah hath come. I only hope I am ready for his advent.
  BEST COMMENTARY ON REVELATION?
Revelation
I really like the God's Word for the Bibically-Inept series. It is clear, concise and refers to most reputable commentaries and trusted scholars. It is organized in an easy to follow way and its cross referencing is relevant.
  Are you kidding?
Revelation
I think you're right that the Bible is the best source, but I've found God's Word for the Bibilically-Inept to be a good start in trying to understand the Book Revelation and how it relates to the rest of the Bible. I purchased various books in the series in order to explain certain books of the Bible to my kids in words that they would be able to understand and got hooked.
  BEST COMMENTARY ON REVELATION?
Revelation
There are 4 main views on how the visions of 6:1-18:24 are fulfilled. Preterists think fulfillment occurred in 70 AD. Futurists think fulfillment will occur in a period just before the Second Coming. Historicists think that section offers a basically chronological outline of the course of church history. Idealists think that the scenes of Revelation depict not specific events but principles of spiritual war throughout the church age and may have repeated embodiments.

So proceed with an understanding that for years there have been different understandings.

Revelation
Thank you, Cathy. I will look into it. Where I am there are no Christian bookstores 'down the street.' (Frankly, I don't know if I want that 'title' sitting on the shelf where everyone can see, though ;-) In Jesus' name!
  BEST COMMENTARY ON REVELATION?
Revelation
Thanks for your good answer. To understand that there are indeed four main approaches to the interpretation of the book of Revelation is fundamental to any study of this book. I.e., not only are there different explanations of the prophecies, but also note that not everyone considers Revelation a book of prophecy. As you so accurately point out, some take a historical and others an allegorical approach to Revelation.
  Only 144,000 virgins in heaven?

Muslims and Jehovah Witnesses believe that only 144,00 people are going to heaven, Who else believes this.
  Only 144,000 virgins in heaven?
Revelation
I don't really know much about the Muslims, and I haven't brushed up on my JehoWitTheology lately, but I don't think that the Jehovah's Witnesses believe that only 144,000 people are going to heaven...I think they rank people sort of. I KNOW that they believe that the most faithful 144,000 will be the 144,000 mentioned in Revelation, though.
  What are the seven seals?
Revelation
The 7 seals are the first set of judgements in the Tribulation Hour, which tech. also include the Trumpet Judgments. According to my understanding and interpretation, they are to occur during the first quarter of the Tribulation Period. By the way, I reccommend reading either REVELATION UNVEILED (Dr. Tim LaHaye) or REVELATION REVEALED (Dr. Jack Van Impe).

  Good study guide for Revelation?
Revelation
Right. I read this book too: "Revelation: God's Word For the Biblically Inept." I agree whole-heartedly that it is a good book for new-comers to the book of Revelation, and it made things like the one-world religion and the 7 hills of Rome, etc. very easy to understand. I also agree, though, that it did leave me asking a lot of questions.

Jack Van Impe: REVELATION REVEALED. Not because of his writing talent, but because of his near-perfect theology.
  Only 144,000 virgins in heaven?
Revelation
Dear HeirofGod, What did you mean about 'virgins?' As far as I know, some sects of the Mormons also use this number, as well as the Unification Church (the Moonies). It seems that almost all cults that 'use' the Bible for their own purposes point to this number in order to attempt to 'legitimatize' their religion. In other words, theirs is the 'true' faith, and the rest of Christians are deceived or 'faith-challenged.' I find it interesting to note that some of these cults have more than 144k members (even discounting their 'inflation' of the numbers), which causes me to wonder how they account for this to their own people. Are they trampling one another for a 'reservation?' ;-)
It seems to me that even Bible-believing Christians can interpret this number to be a 'saved-unsaved' or 'saved-more saved' competition. I do not know exactly what this number depicts, but I do know that is dangerous to focus too much attention on it. In Jesus.
  Only 144,000 virgins in heaven?
Revelation
We should read the first chapters of Revelation to understand that the Lord is calling everyone to repentance. Look at Rev 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 "To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

Regarding the 144,000 God is speaking about the 12 tribues Rev 7:2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 3 saying, "Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads." 4 And I heard the number of those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed:
5 of the tribe of Judah twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand were sealed; 6 of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand were sealed; 7 of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand were sealed;
8 of the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand were sealed; of the tribe of Benjamin twelve thousand were sealed.

Look what it continues to say: Rev 7:9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude WHICH NO ONE COULD NUMBER, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!" 11 All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying: "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen." 13 Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, "Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?" 14 And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
15 "Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them.
16 "They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; 17 "for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
  Only 144,000 virgins in heaven?
Revelation
I understand what the number is and who it includes. I was just wondering why and how these false religions only include 144,000 people in heaven. There will be 144,000 men undefiled by women(this is what I meant by virgins) Rev. 14:1-4. but they are Jews.
WHY DOSE IT HAVE TO BE MOSSES AND ELIJAH
Revelation
Remember in Matt. 17:3 in the transfiguration scene. Moses and Elijah appeared to Peter, James, and John, ministering to Jesus on the mountain. This scene represents the scene when Jesus returns to reign. Peter, James, and John represent the people who live through the tribulation. Moses represents the people who die and go to heaven. Elijah represents the people who are raptured into heaven. Moses and Elijah are sent back to minister to the Jews in Revelation and then are killed and raised from the dead. This scripture in Matt. 17 when they minister to Christ is one of my greatest supporters for believeing they are the two witnesses.
