Nolan, This was about Edom (vv 10-14)
The NIV says "crossroads" ... in any case it is where two roads met. As Israel fled south, from their enemies, Edom came on the other road, meeting them at the fork of the road (or intersection). They sold their brothers (Jacob-Easu) as slaves.

Thank you, Steve!
Now every single book of the Bible has at least one question that has been discussed on this Forum! :)

Why the judgment on Edom? |
|

|
Obad 1:21

So let's ask the question: Why the strict judgment on Edom?
A short answer might be that Esau's contempt for his birthright and hatred for Jacob stealing the blessing continued on to his offspring even though Esau and Jacob seemed to patch things up when Jacob returned from serving Laban.
This hatred would manifest itself against the nation of Israel later.

Excellent question, Steve!
Obadiah 10-14 helps to answer this queston..
"10 Because of violence to your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame, and you will be cut off forever.
11 On the day that you stood aloof, on the day that strangers carried off his wealth, and foreigners entered his gate and cast lots for Jerusalem- you too were as one of them.
12 Do not gloat over your brother's day, the day of his misfortune. And do not rejoice over the sons of Judah in the day of their destruction; Yes, do not boast in the day of their distress.
13 Do not enter the gate of My people in the day of their disaster. Yes, you, do not gloat over their calamity in the day of their disaster. And do not loot their wealth in the day of their disaster.
14 Do not stand at the fork of the road to cut down their fugitives; and do not imprison their survivors in the day of their distress." [NASB]
Of course, the advice not to stand at the 'fork of the road' is most helpful! :-)
This is a very interesting little book!
Blessings to you,
