Where in the Bible is the rapture theory even substantiated? Read 1Thess. 4:15-17. Christ's coming is not secret- the Bible describes it as loud, and bright. "even as the lightning shines from the east to the west, even so shall the coming of the Son of Man be." The "secret rapture" is fiction. |

Was Lucifer 'tempted' to be vain? No, I don't think that God is responsible for that. As far as we are told, Lucifer was the first 'sinner,'and it had to start somewhere. Frankly, I am not sure I like the phrase 'good vs. evil.' Though I don't think you meant it in this manner, many people think of it as a battle between almost equal opponents. For the sake of those who watch too many movies, God Almighty is the Creator, and Satan is just a miniscule 'wannabe,' soon to be vanquished with a breath. Though we are now temporarily living in a place heavily influenced by this petty pretender, we are citizens of the kingdom of God, and will soon live there forever.

Have you ever looked at Urantia Book? |
|

|
Rev 19:4
|

Well said. You are a wise man. Yes, all of The Urantia Book is valid and accurate. The problem is that there is too much information given. This information in the other three sections is information that I do not need to have to love God, love myself, love my neighbor and love my enemy. Remember the movie, The Man Who Knew Too Much. This is the problem with having too much information, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. If we are not anchored in being a servant for Jesus, we can take this information and use is for power and control. I watched a man read the Urantia Book and go insane because he had too much information. Power corrupts. This is the danger contained within The Urantia Book. So now you know the rest of the story as Paul Harvey would say. Thank you for your insight. So if The Urantia Book is the scroll that Danial was told to keep sealed until the times of the end, what do we do about it? Have a good Friday. |

WILL A BABY IN THE WOMB GO IN THE RAPTUR |

|
2 Thessalonians
|
| |
Dear Dan, the 'rapture' has been discussed at length. Click 'Search' on the left and enter the word, it will lead you to several listings. My comment is on the 'age of accountability.' This might answer part of your question. There is no set age for faith. A child born of a Christian parent (hopefully parents) is under the authority and covering of that parent until a time (that God sets) when he becomes responsive and responsible to call upon the name of the Lord. I would suggest that this age changes according to circumstance, society, personal maturity, and foremost, God. Though a little boy of 6 might 'really love Jesus,' I would find it hard to believe that a child of that age was truly responsible for knowing sin and serving the Lord Jesus for the rest of his life. On the other hand, an 18 year old, still unable to battle against the sin in his life, and rebelling against his Christian heritage, is stretching his 'covering.' Though a popular 'Christian' book series and movie portrayed 'empty wombs' and all children as saved and 'taken,' I don't think this is from the Bible. Last I read the Bible, we are born as children of wrath, not blameless. In Christ Jesus. |

What is the point? |
|
|
|
1 Thessalonians
|
| |
Why would you want to? Dear EveryHome, I am not making fun of you, or making light of your question. I simply think that examining one's motives for pursuing this is a good thing. I am not Pre-trib, Mid-trib, Post-trib, or even Rapture with a capital 'R,' so I won't be trying to convince you of any of these. I cannot see that any one of these 'theories' is carries the weight of Biblical certainty. I have studied extensively these since watching a movie that had elements of all of these, almost 20 years ago. My conclusion is that, though the topic is worthy of investigation, focusing on it is a diversion. In fact, to some it is a trap and a fixation. Why would you wan to spend a lot of time looking into something that has been expressly hidden from us? "Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time is." Mark 13:33 I look at the context of this and get from it that we are not to go around looking for signs, investigating every earthquake and war. Nor are we to say, "Here is Jesus!" and everyone flocks to this place and that, seeking a 'special' blessing or understanding. No one fellow, group, or place will have a 'special' knowledge of the coming of Christ. Period. Instead, live your life for Christ, NOW! Obey His commandments where He has set you. Preach the Good News that He is Lord, and He will return, not about the return. As I look into the Bible, I can see no 'special' thing we can do to prepare for a rapture of any kind, except to live in Christ to the fullest of the faith-gift given us. All else is diversion and vanity. The phrase 'so heaven-bound that they are no earthly good' applies to many who know 'all' about the end times, but their Christian lives are in a shambles. The good books on the 'end-times' and 'rapture' will give you a overview of the scriptures, Old Testament and New Testament, but then tell you the same thing, "So...Live in Jesus!" That is the 'bottom line.'
Blessings in Jesus' name! |

what were the 7 Messianic signs |

Do the Scriptures clearly indicate somewhere that there were precisely 7 Messianic signs or miracles that only the Messiah could fulfill? This is the first I've heard of such a Biblical prophecy of 7 signs, but I'm interested in hearing what Bible passage you may be referring to.
The only reference to 7 signs I'm aware of was a movie called, "The Seventh Sign," which I was unfortunate enough to see a few years ago. That movie had virtually nothing to do with the Scriptures. Please tell me this isn't what you're referring to. |

Nephilim Humans? |
|
|
|
Gen 6:4
|
| |
Dear Brent Douglass (not your name :-), Actually, I don't believe that the Nephilim were angels. Before I go into that, though, why is it bad hermeneutics, to say that if one 'created spiritual being' (angel) can procreate with humans, then another 'created spiritual being' of the same type (demon, fallen angel) can, too? This is all based an a theory I don't believe anyway, but as a hypothetical, both should have the same basic capabilities. After all, we are not told that the demons were neutered before they were cast down. In fact, this is the point of my question: Many Christians ascribe to Satan and his minions power they do not have! Satan is the 'prince of lies,' and many good Christians believe those lies. In addition, we have 'Rosemary's Baby' and 'Omen'-type movies that are accepted as the way things are. (Sadly, many uninformed or misinformed Christians believe in Hollywood) Well, the Bible does not say that that is the way things are.
Friend, you are absulutely correct, the most logical idea is that they were 'big guys,' but human. Often, however, logic is chucked in favor of the sensational.
In the area of speculation, how about that the Nephilim were the 'sons of God' in the sense that they were of Adam and Eve, as compared to 'daughters of men' who were not of Adam and Eve? The idea has some merit, but would be heretical to 'absolutists' that say that all mankind had to come from Adam and Eve. 'Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."' Genesis 1:26 NASB tells of the creation of man, human beings, but not God's chosen race. Then "Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being."
Genesis 2:7 NASB could speak of a spiritually 'living being' that was 'special,' God's chosen race. This would explain many of the 'complications' involved inexplaining the various races and who Adam's children married, etc. This speculation is at least as good as some of the other theories portrayed as 'absolute truth.'
In any case, my friend, it is speculation, just as you said.
Thanks for a good, insightful answer. Blessings to you in Christ Jesus. charis |

where do blacks come from? |

Bible general Archive 1

I would like to be clear that in NO way do I think one color of people is better than another, that's why I ended my previous post with Galatians 3. What I do feel is of importance when witnessing, is that my Black brothers and sisters need to know that they are not an afterthought in the mind of God! Satan has used racism, especially in America, to portray Christianity as a white man's religion. I've had many people tell me that. So many of our brothers and sisters have been tricked into other religions, especially the Nation of Islam, with this lie. Also, we see pictures based on scenes in the Bible, that are based on the drawings of Michealangelo. Which, there is nothing wrong, because that is one man's rendering and I wouldn't expect anything else. If I was a artist I might be tempted to draw everybody Black, because that's what I am. Therefore, I can see why Michealangelo drew everybody as Italians. Yet, our young brothers and sisters, especially in the inner city, see these faces and don't see themselves as part of God's plan. They see movies and tv shows based horribly on the Bible and see no actors of color, and if there are they are the Egyptian slaves. So they flock to false teachers, with black militant or feel good positive thinking messages. Yes race is not important, that's why God didn't discuss it. It's not essential to salvation. In fact the classification of seperating people, by color(race) is less than a 1000 yrs old. But to ignore, trivialize, or spiritualize the answer, when dealing with an unbeliever is a missed opportunity. |

real presence or symbolic presence? |
|
|
|
1 Cor 10:16
|
| |
Dear dschaertel, It seems that you are trying to make the Lord's supper into either full mystical transubstantiation, or a mere symbol. The scriptures support much more than a mere symbol, and never attempt to suggest a physical transmutation. Partaking in the Lord's Supper is a spiritual reality, with spiritual consequences in this life. This is imputed by the Holy Spirit when accompanied by the faith of the believer that he is participating again in the communion with Christ. It is commanded of us, and imparts true, real blessing upon those who receive in faith. In the same manner, false motives will impart real danger to the unholy partaker. However, it is not like an Indiana Jones movie, with instantaneous effect. God's timing is God's timing.

Jesus condemn soldier to life on Earth? |

Amos 1:1

JVH has responded to your question with the correct Biblical reference: There is none. Is the movie to which you refer a Hollywood production or a private production under the auspices of some religious or special-interest group? In either case, of course, it would appear to have its basis in fantasy and not fact. Some plays and movies about Biblical themes contain just enough factual material to give them a hint of truth, but are in reality dangerously misleading for one who is not sufficiently versed in the Scriptures. Some are nakedly blasphemous, e.g., Jesus Christ, Superstar. There's a lot of wild stuff out there, and Christians must ever be on guard. We are not immune to being deceived. Hank |

Amos 1:1

I first heard about this story 10 years ago and to this date I have known it to be just that, a "story" dreamed up by those who have more time for religious fantasy than biblical fact. Hank is correct in his observation. Movies today, including Left Behind, have just enough biblical similarity to make the unlearned and spiritually immature not only waste their money, but waste an even more valuable asset the Holy Spirit has given them which is discernment (assuming, of course, they are believers).

Does a human clone have a soul? |
|
|
|
Gen 2:7
|
| |
Since there's no such thing as a human clone yet, the question should be, "WOULD a human..." And so far as I've heard, the "cloning" that's been done so far has been on already fertilized eggs, not on pieces of genetic material like you see in science fiction movies. So if a man were cloned at the present state of the technology, he would have a soul.
Further, that which has no soul would not be human, for to be human means to have body and soul. "Fear not those who can only kill the body.... Fear Him who can destroy both body and soul in hell." Matt. 10:28 |

Is prayer of Jabez special? |

|
|
1 Chr 4:10
|
| |
Joe, my only "anger" towards you is that you said the words and I didn't! I believe you ventured into the realm of giving a powerful, moving testimony -- something we don't read often enough these days from believers. You "brought the barn down" in the style of some of the old-time gospel preachers, going as far back as the one who was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. Paul, I believe his name was. Each generation has its own peculiar inventory of fads and gimmicks within the Christian community. Today it is the curious marriage of "feel good" religion and end-times stuff, or eschatology. A generation or two ago, the "positive thinking" sub-culture was the train to ride if one really expected to go places in this world. Its gurus went about chanting the mantra "think positive. think positive, go to church, pray positive prayers and you will be healthy, wealthy and wise. God was a tool in the positive thinker's tool kit to be used to make him succcessful. Eternal salvation was, if anything, an incidental benefit for those who might feel they needed it...In our time, reading entertaining Bible stories based on "fact" and so-called Christian fiction is a deplorable substitute for feeding directly upon the life-changing Word of God. I happen to know some people who devour avidly the latest release of this or that "Christian" book, and who can recall the minute details of many of these books, but who would be hard-pressed to name the books that constitute the Torah. I taught an adult Sunday school class for 25 years. I am amazed still by the scant knowledge that so many Christians have of the Bible. It reminds me of the story of some years ago, when Cecil B. DeMille was making all those epic pictures of Bible times. Just days before the release of his epic called "The Bible" two blue-haired old ladies were sitting in a church pew, chatting away before the beginning of the service. One asked the other, "Ethel, have you ever read the Bible through and through?" To which Ethel replied, "Well, Mildred, I've started it several times, but I can't seem to get much past Genesis. I suppose now I'll just wait and see the movie." Ethel is still among us. --Hank |

How much should we give? |
|

This issue has been discussed in every form ever since Paul said we are no longer under the law.
Let’s face facts you don’t get something for nothing. If we want to sit in a nice building and have heating, cooling and lights take takes money. If we want good music, a good children’s education program, youth activities, and other church programs that takes money. If we want to have a Pastor that is able to drop everything to rush to our side at the hospital, accident site, or death bed that takes money. If we want someone to teach us, counsel us, baptize us, marry us and bury us that takes money. A wise man once told me always “pay” for your seat.
We expect to pay and do pay for our seats when we attend ball games, operas, stage shows, movies, seminars, colleges and airline travels why are we so reluctant to pay for our churches, church programs and Pastors? Some say a tithe is like a tax and so it is. If we didn't pay taxes we wouldn't have schools, roads, fire and rescue. If we don't pay our tithe how can we expect to have our churches?
In Malachi 3:8-11 God issues us a challenge He said test me in this, see if I don’t reward you in your giving. I never understood why so many seem to be afraid to try this. If you give and God doesn’t keep His word you can quit, but when God does fulfill this promise you may want to step up your giving.
God does not care how much you give; God cares how much you keep for yourself. It shows where your heart is. John the Baptist gave us a clue of what God expects in the New Testament Saints when he said, if your brother has need of a coat and you have two give him one.” Luke 3:11

Dear Cephas, As with your namesake, please do move on to other, more uplifting things. I do not say this in anger or exasperation, but for your own sake and ours. Peter walked with the Lord Jesus, yet doubted and left Him and even denied Him. He later was filled with the Spirit and this took away every doubt, every bit of skeptisism. He trusted God completely from that time to his death. To speculate that "maybe God this..." or "maybe God that..." is not giving due glory to God, or honoring Him. "What if God made evil?" is a worldly, humanist idea for a new 'Star Trek' movie, or a new 'fantasy' bestseller. This is a forum for sharing our thoughts about a glorious God, full, completely full of goodness and lovingkindness. To investigate His holy Bible for truth and love. I don't know about others, but I find speculation about God's intentions and motives to be peace-robbing, not edifying or peace-giving.

Babies in heaven when they die? |
|
|
|
Bible general Archive 1
|
| |
Dear Nolan, I can find no direct reference to babies and children going to heaven. Often, babies are referred to as 'cherubic.' As to the salvation of children, it becomes a bit sticky.
First, children of the unsaved: Regarding children, unborn or born of the unsaved, there is little Scriptural indication that they are considered 'innocent.' In fact, the Word says we are "by nature children of wrath." There is the place where Jesus says, "Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." in Luke 18:16, but this Scripture is often quoted as speaking of believers, not literal children. Suggesting a dual-meaning could be dangerous. Verse 15 might mean the literal children of believers, while verse 17 leads us to a figurative meaning of believers in Christ, but neither seems to mean 'all' children. In the book-movie "Left Behind," all children, born and unborn, of saved and unsaved were 'raptured.' I find this hard to support Biblically. Please, I am not being unfeeling, judgmental, or proclaiming that children of the unsaved will go to Hell. I am just saying that the *assumption* that all children are innocent and all deserve to go to heaven is hard to back up. God will save whom He will save.
Next, children of the saved: The main scripture that might give hope to parents is 1 Corinthians 7:14 "...but now they are holy." MacArthur writes: 'They would be unclean if both parents were unsaved, but the presence of one believing parent exposes the children to blessing and brings them protection. The presence of even one Christian parent will protect children from undue spiritual harm, and they will receive many blessings, and often that includes salvation.' My personal hope is that it guarantees salvation. If we try to say that children are saved through infant baptism, then the unborn or unbaptized would not be saved. (Note: not an argument against infant baptism, only against baptism required for salvation) It is my belief that if our children are saved, they will be in heaven.
Finally, when are they no longer children? I do not believe there is a set age. My experience with kids suggest that they can really know Jesus (as compared to know about Jesus) between 12 and 15. (Please, people with 11 and younger children, don't jump on me! Every Christian parent wants their children to be personally saved earlier than that :-) But truly, children are children until they begin to shoulder the burdens and responsibilities of adult life. This would include marital, financial, parental, social, church fellowship, and spiritual burdens. Those who are 'in between' phases, are just that, and God is much more aware of their situation than anyone else. They are His. Trust God to do the right thing. "Let God be true...!"

Acts 11:1

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am actually a redneck from Katy TX. The screen name came from a running joke on another board about the Freemasons trying to take over the world.
The practice is not so much a ritual as a tradition I suppose. It seems to be done through over-enthusiasm, but with the sincere desire to win souls for Jesus. I should have made my point clearer. I feel that focusing intensely on one gift or feature of salvation and the wonderful “Jesus experience” can be so counter productive as to drive a person away from Christ. (Other interesting features of this doctrine, men may not wear short sleeves or have facial hair. Women cannot cut their hair, wear any makeup or jewelry including wedding rings. Television, G rated movies and the Internet are all sins. Etc., etc.)
Being a new Christian that counts his time in the church in weeks, and has little bible knowledge, I am very grateful for this board. Of course I realize that not everything I read here is correct or accurate, but it is still a blessing for a young Christian.

Is Hollywood biblically accurate? |
|
|
|
Bible general Archive 1

Yes I believe it is Nolan.
God can do anything. He can arrange for anyone to write a biblically accurate movie if He so chooses. Many have tried. One problem is the general public is not ready to accept it. The movie is unable to generate the revenue to pay for the making of the movie so they don't make them. Many of the secular world considers the bible boring and would not even attend or buy such a movie. I believe the movies that they do make such as the ones you listed they do try to make accurate but then you have to remember that they still have to sell the movie to the public. Hence they need to add some excitement and this is where the movie looses its accuracy.
Check your local Christian book store where they do rent movies. There are some there that you can watch and using the bible you will have the script right in your hand. prayon |

Is Hollywood biblically accurate? |
|
|
|
Bible general Archive 1
|
| |
Dear Nolan, You actually asked two questions.
1) Is Hollywood faithful to the Bible? No. Generally speaking, Hollywood is more concerned with making money by satisfying the majority's perceived notions of the Bible, and not offending anyone, no matter how perverted they are, than being faithful to the teaching of the Word of God.
2) Is it possible to do so? Yes. There are a few Christian movies that place more emphasis on the convictions of faith than making money or a 'poll-approved' movie. Can 'Hollywood' do this? I seriously doubt it. The director and-or producer would be considered a renegade and 'heretic' for choosing faith over mammon.
Finally, the definition of 'accurate' would be subject of the whims of many. This forum is (unfortunately) an excellent example of the division of opinion among Christians. You may like one of the above movies, but another may consider it an abomination. On your 'questionable' list, another might consider a movie 'valid artistic representation.' :-)
Good question with a volatile answer.

Phil 1:1

Charis - I agree with our brother Tim.
I also see the early church as almost being divided in Acts 6 - on the care of people In Acts 15 there was some division - on circumsion and othe Jewish rites.
1 Cor. 1:10ff talks about divisions - following a leader. There are divisions over minor issues - eating meat offered to idols, dancing, going to movies, slavery, sign gifts, day of "worship", role of laity, music instruments, type of music, color of the carpet ...
In John 17:21 when Jesus prayed for unity, Satan knew he had a simple task to cause divisons. I have gone to church of several denominations.
We need to be able to gather with those who think differently on the minors. My pastor gets together with pastors of other denominations once a week.
Yes, there are major differences that we should not allow - Jesus is the Son of God - the only way to heaven ...

Bother EdB,
Don't be ridiculous! This stuff is damn serious. Interpretation of dreams is from God, not hearing the evidence. I can't talk that way to her, for she is in such real danger, but I will to you, for you are confusing spiritual warfare with social problems. If you don't know or have forgotten the difference then it's time you wake up.
Have you ever cast demons out of people? Have you ever knowingly had conflict with demons? These things are not sitting around, and they mean to hurt us...That's why I say if she does not have experience with this kind of conflict then move on to a safer place.
I've been in Donnag's place, but I will not give the details, lest I give our enemy unpaid advertising, but it was way weirder than movie special effects. I am not afraid of demons, but there is a time and place for direct conflict and there is a time for strategy. Something has gone way wrong when hell is at the churches gates.

What is a generatonal curse? |
|
|
|
Gal 1:9
|
| |
I do see "learned patterns" of behavior passed from Grandfather, Father, and finally to son in every day life. Alcoholism is a classic example in American culture. Usually when I counsel a person who is an alcoholic I can almost guaruntee that his father had a drinking problem as well. This pattern does appear even in the lifes of the O.T. saints we read about: Look at Abram's lie contrasted with Jacob's lie (Abram told a 1/2 truth about sarah being his wife and jacob did the same thing)!
The million dollar question is, "are these patterns of behavior 'generational curses' that plague families?" What do these people mean by "generational curses?" If they mean learned behavior patterns, put me in their camp...I believe in them. If they mean some satanic spirit follows a family around and makes sure they are addicted to alcohol/anger problems/lust (which by the way the Apostle Paul attributes to the flesh not to Satanic powers) and God's salvation provision is not enough to break the hold, I can't buy into it.
Usually people who tout this belief say that those who do not believe in generational curses are un-sympathetic to Christians that struggle with sin. That is the furthest thing from the truth. What we do not do is give them a "devil made me do it" ticket to get out of the responsibility of their actions.
In American society we love this free ticket of irresponsibility and we would love to blame our shortcomings on some external, uncontrollable force that prevents us from doing good--Hey that means, in the words of Rocket Man (funny movie), "I didn't do it!" That is all I have seen in the fruit of this type of counseling--Being a part of the charismaniac movement for well over 15 years, I speak as a somewhat authority on this subject.
As far as a fad goes, I agree with glory777. This is nothing but another fad that floods the charismaniac/TBN airwaves. Give it another couple of years and another fad will come down the shoot--and if you don't fully embrace the upcoming fad, you will have another label placed on your head by those that do.
Hope this post helps. |

If God knew from before the beginning of time, everything that would ever happen, then why go to the trouble to actually go through it. In other words, if God know everything, then what is the purpose of the universe?
1. I can think of a couple examples on the level of humanity, but neither seem to fit. Humans eat the same foods over and over even though they know what they'll taste like, and how long they will be filling. This is becuase we need food, but does God NEED the universe. In my view, He is self-sufficient.
2. Humans often will watch a movie that they have seen before, just because they enjoy it. But the universe contains real people and real suffering (even eternal suffering for some people), and in my view, a holy God would not enjoy experiencing that.
The "Sunday School" answer to this question is that God created the universe for His glory. But isn't that the ultimate of selfishness to create a universe where some people would eternally suffer just for a beings own glory? |
