  Day of the Lord?
Joel
Is the 'day of the Lord' mentioned in Joel 1:15 referring to Christ's coming (the Gospels) or His second coming (1 Thess. 5:2)? Is this the same 'day of the Lord' that is referred to by Paul in 1 Thess. 5:2?
  Day of the Lord?
Joel
The "day of the Lord" is a common phrase in the OT and in the book of Joel (2:1,11,31;3:14). It always refers to some extraordinary happening, whether a present event (like a locust plague), an event in the near future (like the destruction of Jerusalem or the defeat of enemy nations), or the final period of history when God will defeat all the forces of evil. Even when the day of the Lord refers to a present event, it also pictures the final day of the Lord. It can be referring to the same thing as 1Thess 5:2 or it can be referring to the 2nd coming. I believe it is refering to the 2nd coming. Another good one to ask Jesus when we see him......prayon

Joe 1:15
Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand,
and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

The final judgement! The second coming of Christ.

2Pe 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the
night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a
great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent
heat, the earth also and the works that are therein
shall be burned up.
  women as pastors
Joel
Are women allowed ,biblically ,to be pastors and if so why the passages against it .Who was Paul adressing?
  women as pastors
Joel
God can use anyone he chooses If that person herd from God who are we to judge.God said he will pour out his spirit upon all flesh his sons and daughters shall prophesy.
  women as pastors
Joel
  Hello becauseofgrace

Paul was telling women that they were not to teach or exercise authority over men. In other words, where men are present, don't lead. Let the men lead.

The word pastor is better translated shepherd. Anyone can do that, especially in a one-on-one situation. And women are commanded to do so with other women in Titus 2:3-5.

  What do we tell them?
Joel 1:3
Verse 4 is the answer ... what the locust left.

But, I think your question may be better answered with, Due. 6. It is a start. Have edvidences of the Word around the house and take it as you go ... most important, live it.

  fig tree
Joel 1:7
  In Mark 11:12-14 its says:

12

On the next day, when they had left Bethany, He became hungry.

13

Seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.

14

He said to it, ""May no one ever eat fruit from you again!'' And His disciples were listening.

My understanding is that the fig tree is a representation of a believer and the point of these verses is to show the importance of bearing fruit.

My question is, why would Jesus seek figs at a fig tree if it was not in season? Also, why did He curse it?

Does this mean that we are to bear fruit in season and out of season?
  fig tree
Joel 1:7
  Kaman
Look at Mark 11:12-14 in context of Mark 13 and the prediction of the desruction of Jerusalem. The fig tree is also Israel. See also Jeriamiah 8:13; 29:17; Joel 1:7; Hosea 9:10,16

Emmaus
  fig tree
Joel 1:7
I believe that a Christian is to bear fruit always. In His word it says that you know THEM by their FRUIT. We must also be ready in season and out. I believe that you can turn your back on God and lose your salvation because the Word says your name can be blotted out of the book of life. So maybe the believer is represented by the Fig Tree....once a fruit bearer but then quit bearing fruit. So God cursed it. In God's Word it also states that we can CHOSE a blessing or a cursing. So who is it that blesses and curses. (Is it God?) oh well....something else to think about
  fig tree
Joel 1:7
When fig trees leaves appear the fruit or figs are there also. They also have more than one season.I'm not sure which commentary I read this in.I had the same question when I did the research. one minister said this was symbolic of taking the tithe and using it for personal use.He stated that travelers had eaten what was for the priests and levites and their families. At any rate, something went on apart from the will of God and the end result was a judgement: the death penalty. However God is merciful and sometimes God prolongs the sentencing until we've had time to get our act together. All unproductiveness is unacceptable with God.That is why we must abide in Him so we can continue to be fruitful. I would like to hear more on this subject too.

  Was prophecy fulfilled at Pentecost?
Joel 2:28
Was the prophecy of Joel 2:28-32 completely fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:16)?
  Was prophecy fulfilled at Pentecost?
Joel 2:28
Nolan, prophecy was only fulfilled in part at Pentecost. In Acts 2:17-20 Paul tells the men of Judea and those who live in Jerusalem that these persons were not drunk but that the first part of Joel's prophecy had been fulfilled and this was that fulfillment. However, not all of Joel's prophecy was fulfilled that morning. Verse 17 starts off "In the last days", of which we are still in. He continues to pour out His spirit on those who desire it today. Verse 19 states that He will show signs on the earth below - blood, fire, and smoky mist. I believe these are still to come. He also states that the sun shall be darkened and the moon turned to blood which we are told in Revelation 6:12 will be during the tribulation.

  Sprinkles not the outpouring?
Joel 2:28
After considering the preceding verses in Joel, I'm wondering if this final outpouring of the Spirit will be AFTER the rapture of the church? (I'm a pre-wrath believer!)Could it be that we are only experiencing some "sprinkles" during these "last days?"

  The Ordination of Women
Joel 2:28
  Ordination of Women

There seem to be many views about this
topic. I want to know how can anyone
question someone who feels that they have
been called by God? We have a woman in
our church who feels that God is calling
her to be ordained. This has split our
church right down the middle as far as
opinions go. I am of the thinking that
if someone feels they have heard God
speaking to them, who are we (they) to
say he isn't??? Does anyone have any
insight on this. I will be representing
my opinion (and that of many others)
tonight in our church conference. Any
advice, suggestions, scripture is
appreciated!
  The Ordination of Women
Joel 2:28
This topic is really controversial from the standpoint of 1 Corinthians 14:34 As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

The next verse is a cross ref of 1 Corin. 14:34. 1 Timothy 2:11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
The Scriptures nowhere state that women should not preach. But Paul told the women at that particular time to keep silent. 1 Cor. 14:33 reads, “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” These women must have been out of God’s order and making confusion. So Paul commanded them to keep silent that the confusion might be stopped. The men also were making some confusion, and Paul told them to keep silent in the church when there was no one to interpret (see 1 Cor. 14:28).
In 1 Tim. 2:12, Paul says, “I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, . . . for Adam was first formed, then Eve.” To my mind he was here reproving those women who were usurping authority or ruling over their husbands and others, which is not consistent with the Spirit of Christ.
I was told that the custom back then was that the men would sit on one side of the sanctuary and the women the other. The women would try and ask their husbands questions across the church which caused a disruption. (This is no defense since it is not documented by facts; just a comment.) The second scripture clarifies the first that they were talking in church. My understanding it has nothing to do with preaching the gospel

Eph 4:11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers. Deborah was a prophet. You have to be called in order to be a prophet.

Joel 2:28 And afterward I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy..

Well the only other conviction I have is that the Co-Pastor of our church is a woman and a powerful woman of God at that. She has spoken things in my life that have come to pass. And the flow of her messages from God bears witness with my spirit. Her husband is Pastor. They have a team ministry. I know God’s presence is in our church and where Jesus is, that is where I will be.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal. 3:28).
  Is Israel still chosen?
Joel 3:20
I believe that since God's promises doesn't change, Israel is still His chosen. My pastor doesn't believe they are. He says they're a political entity far removed from God. What does this forum believe?
  Is Israel still chosen?
Joel 3:20
You are absolutely correct. The scriptures promise that David's kingdom will be established forever. They promise that God will establish Israel as the most blessed kingdom of all time. God is not finished with Israel. The very existance of Israel is a marvelous witness to the faithfullness of God. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has preserved Israel through the terrorism of the Muslims, the holocaust, the diaspora - and they will always remain as a witness to the faithfulness of God. The verse below is just one example. The minor prophets are full of kingdom promises specific to Israel.

20But Judah shall abide forever, And Jerusalem from generation to generation. 21For I will acquit them of the guilt of bloodshed, whom I had not acquitted; For the LORD dwells in Zion

  So helpful. Mahalo.
  Is Israel still chosen?
Joel 3:20
It has been bothering me that my answer omitted the best NT reference on this topic - Romans 11. The entire chapter discusses your question, but verse 29 has particular relevance:

... for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

Hope this helps,
