SOUL AND SPIRIT |
James 2:26
| |
In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 God's word tells us that man has a body a soul and a spirit. The spirit is the part of us that makes the difference between us and animals. It enables us to have a relationship with God, who is spirit. (John 4:24) This verse further states He must be worshiped in spirit and in truth. The spirit is what enables us to reason and know. It is the intellectual part. It is this part that makes us responsible for responding to God's provision of salvation in Jesus.
The soul is what makes the difference physical life and death. The soul is the seat of our emotions, feelings and wants or desires.
Humans have 3 parts: body, soul and spirit.
Angels are spirits and animals have body and soul only.
My understanding of this subject has been deepened by WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES which is an Emmaus Bible commentary Published by Emmaus Bible College is Dubuque, Iowa. |

Because in the Jewish genealogy, the "mother side" is used to trace back the validity of citizenship and thus if a person is considered a true Jew or not. Since Mary was a true descendant of David, her son, Jesus as well as his brothers and sisters were true descendants of David. |

Do you have to be baptized to be saved? |
Rom 6:3
| |
Ekip, yes you must be baptized into Christ to be saved.
Romans 6:3 definitely explains that, to be in Christ, you must be baptized into Christ. If you continue to read chapter 6, Paul explained what he meant when he wrote "those who have been baptized into Christ have been baptized into his death."
Romans 8:1 promises that there is no condemnation for those of us who are in Christ Jesus. How does someone get in Christ Jesus? Your question answered that: You must be baptized into Christ Jesus.
Peter has answered your question even more directly in 1 Peter 3:21. |

Is there sacrifice for sin after Jesus |
Heb 10:12
| |
Much of Heb 10 but particularly verses 12 through 18 imply Jesus' sacrifice was complete final and sufficient so that no more offering or sacrifice for sin is necessary. How does this fit with Ezekiel's various directives as in 43:22, 44:29, 46:20 for example. The specific instructions in Ezekiel appear not to be allegorical but specific and detailed. How do we fit these two together. This has been a mystery to me for some time. I look forward to your wisdom. |

Why did God kill Uzzah? |
2 Sam 6:6
| |
Hello Rose. The question isn't so much why God killed Uzzah but why was it necessary that Uzzah suffer the consequences for his actions? God had commanded that the only persons that may touch the Ark of the Covenant were the Levites. He also warned that anyone else who touched it must die. It seems harsh that, concerned that the Ark might fall over and be damaged, that Uzzah should die because he reached out to steady it. Because God is soveriegn, He demands unquestioning obedience. He doesn't permit us the priviledge of the opportunity to question Him why His decrees must be so strictly obeyed . . . indeed He is angered if we seek to question Him (read Job and how God was upset that Job would question why he was so afflicted). Just like you, King David couldn't undestand this either. God is loving, kind and just; some can't reconcile that He could mete out such harsh consequences for disobedience. That which happened to Uzzah was written that we might understand God's character. Read Mark 16:16. when Jesus said that we who believe and are baptized will be saved, He wants us to remember Uzzah. The second part of Mark 16:16 points out the consequences if we don't obey God. I hope this helps . . . Dave. |

Author of James, brother of Jesus? |

James

Why did God kill Uzzah? |
2 Sam 6:6
| |
The inverse of this question is why didn't God kill those who broke his command and had the ark carried by oxen instead of the men who were assigned the task.
In this passage, although God exercises judgement on the sin of Uzzah, it must be clearly noted that he exercised grace concerning the sins of the others present. "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) Unfortunately many find themselves trapped into thinking that the Old Testament teaches judgement, and the New Testament teaches grace. This is an example of grace from the Old Testament. |

What is Pentecost and its significance? |
Acts 2:1
| |
Acts 1:8 says,"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
Jesus had told them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which ye have heard of me.
For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days heance. Acts 1:4-5
Pentecost was this baptism of the Holy Spirit on the ones that it had been promised.
It's significance was to spread the Gospel to everyone that was in Jerusalem on that day, for they all heard in their own language.
This caused the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be spread abroad very quickly. |

Is there sacrifice for sin after Jesus |
Heb 10:12
| |
Dave, Yes, I understand those things, however I also am aware that the day will come when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, including that specific group of people, the Jews. In Ezekiel 43:7 says 7 He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell among the sons of Israel forever. And the house of Israel will not again defile My holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their harlotry and by the corpses of their kings when they die,
Verses like this indicate a permanence or final condition, and are a prophetic revelation not yet fullfilled. Back to you Dave. Thanks for the discussion. |

Abel's sacrifice better than Cain's? |
Heb 11:4
| |
Heb. 11:4 says that Abel offered a better sacrifice than Cain. That is a clear statement in Scripture. We next need to ask, "Why was Abel's offering better?" It is clear from the Gen 4 account that first each person's offering is described and then the text says the LORD had regard (or did not have regard) for that person AND their offering. So, the person was connected to the offering because -- as Hebrews points out -- the kind of offering brought was a clear demonstration of the person's faith. Finally, if one studies the nature of sacrifices made throughout Scripture, it is clear that God requires a blood sacrifice to atone for the sins of His people. It is completely a sound inference to say that Abel's offering was pleasing because it was a blood sacrifice. In the previous chapter, God kills an animal (blood) to get the skins for Adam and Eve's clothes. Later, Abraham is about to make a blood offering of his son Isaac, (though he substitutes a ram instead). This is the most important reason for understanding that - IN CONTEXT - Abel's offering was preferred was because it was a blood offering: because it was a type of the ultimate blood sacrifice and substitute, Jesus Christ. Abel's blood even cried out from the ground! Abel himself was a picture of Jesus Christ: though innocent he was killed, and the Lord replaced him, "resurrecting" the line of the promised Seed of the woman, by causing Eve to give birth to Seth. Just like the word "trinity" is not in the Bible but is clearly taught, so it is legitimate to infer the meaning of something like this when so much of the rest of Scripture in totality is in support of it.

What is Pentecost and its significance? |
Acts 2:1
| |
Pentecost is the Promise of a Universal Outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon believers who ask for Him (See Luke 11:11, 12, 13) with manifestations Peter emphasizes in his sermon, a promise the Father made centuries earlier by the Prophet Joel (Joel 2) as Peter shows further in Chap. 2. It is the seal of the promise Jesus made in John 14 when He said he would not leave us as orphans, but would send us another comforter, the Holy Spirit.
By the Holy Spirit Jesus constantly remains Emmanuel, God among us. The day iof Pentecost is recorded in history as the birthday of the church which is the body of Christ on earth. |

allow the dead to bury their own dead |

Matt 8:22
| |
What did Jesus mean by "allow the dead to bury their own dead"? |
| |
What does this verse mean? |
Matt 6:7
| |
Prayer is central to a believer's life. But Jesus said we should avoid meaningless, repetitive prayers offered under the misconception that mere length will make prayers efficacious. Jesus labels all those who pray repetitiously like this as pagan! Jesus is not forbidding all long prayers or all repetition, only meaningless prayer. Jesus himself prayed at length (Lk 6:12), and also repeated himself in prayer (Mt 26:44), but it was not meaningless prayer. |

5:1 the door handle to Christianity |

Rom 5:1

Therefore: for Paul in Romans this is a stop sign for the reader. Stop and look back at what has lead to this point. Chapters 1-4 have lead to the HUGE words that follow this (the rest of verse 1) and prepare the heart and mine for vv 1-11 of this turning point chapter. Chapter 1 looks at the total sin based foundation of mankind and that there is no excuse for not knowing that God is, Chp. 2 the believer is not saved just by knowing the One True God, their knowledge will be of no use if they stop listening to God and turn their backs on His revalations. Chp 3 the picture and price of sin and man's nature, also the first ray of Light brought by the birth, life, death, and resurection of Jesus. Chp 4 the story of righteousness as gift from God, a free gift not earned, not worked for, given thru the Cross. THEREFORE. we have chapter 5 verse 1 and all the way to the end of chapter 8 the why and how of our Salvation. Always remember the best Theology course in this world is the Book of Romans. |

holy kiss |
1 Thess 5:26
| |
The holy kiss (Rom 16:16; 1 Cor 16:20; 2 Cor 13:12; 1 Thess 5:26) was adopted as a formal greeting among believers. The holy kiss showed love and charity. I would not like to think of the opposite. ..........
But, kisses were shown to be used in different ways in the Bible too, I'll list some of the negatives here: An act of worship toward heathen gods (1 Kings 19:18, 20; Job 31:27; Hos 13:2). To lure illicit love (Prov 7:13). Judas kissed Jesus to betray Him (Matt 26:48-49; Mark 14:44-45; Luke 22:47-48). ................... I hope this helps. |
