  Isn't adultrey grounds for divorce?
Hosea
Why would God allow Hosea to stay in a marriage when the wife was prostitute? Isn't adultery grounds for divorce?
  Isn't adultrey grounds for divorce?
Hosea
Yes, in the N.T. grounds for divorce are limited to sexual immorality (adultery, fornication) and desertion. In both the O.T. and N.T., divorce is PERMITTED, but not COMMANDED. "Therefore, God would allow Hosea to stay in that marriage. . . . .'They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY?" He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way' (Matt 19:7-8 NASB). In regard to your question, the key word in verse 8 is "permitted". The Jewish religious leaders used the word "command", but Jesus used the word "permit".
  Isn't adultrey grounds for divorce?
Hosea
Yes, adultry is grounds for a divorce but does not necessarily require a divorce.

God was telling Hosea to marry the prostitute to reflect what was happening between Isreal and God. By telling Hosea to get back with the Prostitute, God was showing Isreal the they too could be reconciled with God.

  God's Lovingkindness to Israel
Hosea
  God's love....................................

I especially enjoy chapter 11 of this book because it shows God's intense love for His people.

"I loved him...I led them...bent down to feed them"

"How can I give you up?"
"How can I surrender you?"

Too wonderful for words!

Steve
  God's Lovingkindness to Israel
Hosea
Yes, it is too wonderful, even though Israel was "bent on backsliding from" (Hosea 11:7, NKJV) God.

Even though "Backsliding Israel" (Jer. 3:11, ASV) turned away from God, the Lord still stayed His hand out of love (Hosea 11:8-9)!

Blessings to you,

Nolan

Hosea
This book refers to ripping babies from the woumbs of women and dashing their heads against the rocks. How do I explain this to an unbeliever, who uses the verses to "prove" her point that God is cruel and vile. Of course I do not believe it but I cannot explain to her that God was "warning" His people about their sin, and disobedience. Help me with some scriptural back up to gai understanding. Thanks, slide_m46@yahoo.com

God doesn't rip babies or bring evil upon people because there is no evil in Him. God is love.
So how does this evil come upon people?
God is always holding out His loving arms to people. If they either walk away from His arms or they never accept Him, what can God do? He has given man free choice.
If people walk away from God's loving and protecting arms they walk into Satan's hands. Satan comes to kill steal and destroy. So who was ripping babies? God or Satan?
Hosea and ripping babies from the wombs
Hosea
  Hi slide_m46,

I can see why an unbeliever or a seeker would be shocked at the book of Hosea. There is a lot to be shocked it during this time. The people of the Northern Kingdom had turned completely away from one true God, even to the point of sacrificing there own children to a false god called BAAL. The book of Hosea is God prophecy to the Northern Kingdom warning them to change their ways and to do it quickly, or face the consequences of their prideful actions. You can see God concern and hope for the Northern Kingdom although Hosea, but Chp 14 pretty more answers the question about, is God being cruel or not. God is willing to Help, Heal and forgive those who turn back to Him. As far as what we see in:
Hos 13:16 “Sama'ria shall bear her guilt, because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword, their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open. “
Again this is prophecy about what was about to happen, which was the invasion of Shalmaneser king of Assyria. (You read about this in 2 Kings 17:5) So prideful and sure of themselves the Northern Kingdom held out for three year against Shalmaneser, but after that Shalmaneser took his revenge on them by sacking and plundering the cities, take the population into slavery and trying to end any future claim or inheritances as a people by kill the young/unborn.
Hope this helps

God bless you for your answer. I will share this with my "freind". She is not really a freind, but rather a chat room acquantance who goes to the room to cause division among the lovers of Christ. She is also there, in my opinion, to sway those "on the fence" away from Jesus. I have to stop it! I pray to our Lord God for strength thru Christ Jesus. Take care. PS. If interested, it's Yahoo christian chat room 4. You are welcomed to assist any time you like. Praise His Holy Name.
  kids out of wedlock.
Hosea
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I would like to know what the bible says about children born out of wedlock .To be open,my husband engaged himself in adulterous life and out of it he got 2 kids.Early this month he gave his life to Jesus. However he is adamant and he told me that he has to keep the woman and me as his wives because we both have his children.I told him God does not condone polygamy and i as a believer i cannot allow a second wife in my marriage as God intention in marriage is one man one wife.
Now the question is ,as a born again christain, forgiven of all his past sins what is he supposed to do with the children of the other woman. What is the bible teachings regarding this issue.Help me so that i can help my husband spiritually for him to gain an intimacy relationship with God.

Thankyou.

Yours in Christ,

Hosea
  Scripture ... Hos 1:2-8, 3:1-3 ...

Alice Chege, greetings,

My first suggestion is to go to seek wise Biblical counsel, with your husband. It is more for him; but, you both need to go.

I thought about Hosea and Gomer. While it is not an exact fit ... I see the childern could come to live in your home. The other woman needs to release them -- that is a legal issue.

Hope this helps, Searcher

  Dear Alice:
Hi , Im Daniel
Abraham had a wife, and then their was his mistress, "Hagar"

He did indeed provide for his kids, and even ismael still benifited from the inheritage.

but his duty was to Sarah, and remember, Hagar was sent away .

Your husbands offspring is still his responsiblity,, but he should not be part of this other womens life ,, and if he is indeed bornagain, and spends time in prayer seeking truth, Im confident the Lord will verify this to him..

If its ok, Id like to put this on my prayer list for next 10 days and keep you in prayer coverage .

Why was Jehu punished for being obeying?
Hos 1:4
  Greetings Steve!

Here is a little to help answer your question..

"bloodshed of Jezreel: In 841 B.C. Jehu, with God’s approval, destroyed the evil dynasty of Omri by slaughtering Jezebel, the sons of Ahab, and the prophets and priests of Baal (see 2 Kin. 9; 10)." (Nelson NKJV Study Bible)

"Hos 1:4 - Jezreel--that is, "God will scatter" (compare Zec_10:9). It was the royal city of Ahab and his successors, in the tribe of Issachar. Here Jehu exercised his greatest cruelties (2Ki_9:16, 2Ki_9:25, 2Ki_9:33; 2Ki_10:11, 2Ki_10:14, 2Ki_10:17). There is in the name an allusion to "Israel" by a play of letters and sounds." (Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary)

"1:4-5 Each of the children of this pair is given a name symbolic of Israel’s disobedience and violation of the covenant relationship with God. Jezreel (God sows) points to the harvest of judgment that God is about to bring on the kingdom of Israel, and is also the name of the city which was the residence of the kings of Israel (1 Kings 18:45-46; 21:1), and the place where the wicked Queen Jezebel was put to death by Jehu (2 Kings 9:30-37) when he ruthlessly installed himself as king of Israel (2 Kings 9-10). Now his dynasty (house) is about to be destroyed." (Cambridge Annotated Study Bible)

"1:4 “Jezreel” means “God sows.” The “bloodshed of Jezreel” refers to the bloodthirsty acts of Jehu recorded in 2 Kin. 9; 10. The prophecy has two stages of fulfillment: (1) the demise of the house of Jehu with the murder of Zechariah (2 Kin 15:10) and (2) the fall of Samaria and the scattering of Israel into exile (2 Kin 17:5, 6)." (Believer's Study Bible)

"1:4 Jezreel means “God sows” and refers to a valley in northern Israel, the scene of Jehu’s ill-advised and wrongly motivated murder of the sons of Ahab in order to seize the throne (2 Kings 10:1-11). put an end to . Fulfilled by the Assyrian captivity in 722 B.C. and prophesied to Jehu (2 Kings 10:30)." (Ryrie Expanded Edition Study Bible)

Jehu was carrying out God's Will by putting an end to the family of Ahab, but he was doing this with wrong motives and his own agenda in mind.

Hos 1:4
Very interesting. Nolan. I like the answer. Then, if we do for Him (or our bosses) with wrong motives and our own agenda in mind, what should we expect? Ephesians 6:5-8 came to mind. Steve

Hos 1:4
Johnny3, God said, "I will punish the house of Jehu for the bloodshed of Jezreel," (Hos 1:4), not because "led the people away from God to worship idles and to do evil." Steve
Why was Jehu punished for being obeying?
Hos 1:4
  Greetings Steve!

This is a tough question! One possible answer I came across (I'm just throwing it out for consideration. I'm not sure if I accept it or not!) is that Jehu was being punished for coming beyond his orders. He was told to wipe out the house of Ahab, but he also killed Ahaziah, who was the King of Judah and a member of the house of David.

God had not given any commands regrading the house of David. So, perhaps this is why the house of Jehu was being punished.

On other possibility may be similar to what Johnny was saying. Perhaps they were being punished for their hypocrisy. They had executed others for worshipping idols, yet turned around and did the same thing themselves.

Just some thoughts!

Your Brother in Christ,

Tim Moran

Exactly right! What should we expect? And Ephesians 6:5-8 is a good follow-up here!

Hos 1:4
Tim, Going beyond his orders is another possibility. Nolan pointed out attitude.

I jus thought about Saul. He did not wipe out the Amalekites, read 1 Samuel 15. There may of been an attitude problem with Saul, too.

Steve

Hos 1:4
Nolan, I don't want to know, so I will obey with a proper attitude and don't go overboard, like Tim pointed out.

Steve
Why was Jehu punished for being obeying?
Hos 1:4
Yes! Saul was full of pride. If we look at 1 Samuel 15:17..

"15:17 Success and fame are often more difficult to endure than obscurity. This difficulty is personified in Saul. Samuel reminded the haughty sovereign of Israel that God honored him when he was humble and unassuming (cf. 10:21, 22). Now that Saul’s confidence in himself had developed to such an extent that he disregarded God’s laws, judgment was inevitable." (1)

Saul's "wrong attitude" affects his judgment, even in light of God's leading to wipe out the Amalekites..

"15:3 Total annihilation of those defeated in warfare was a common occurrence in this period of history. The practice was known as (Heb.), meaning “devoted to destruction.” Inanimate objects were either destroyed or reserved for the use of the Lord, e.g., in the temple treasuries. Critics often claim that God never issued such a command to annihilate even women and children, a command obviously at variance with the character of God. The willingness of such critics to sit in judgment upon the Bible is inappropriate in light of our ignorance of the total circumstances surrounding this judgment, and in light of Rom 9:15-23. Circumstances which may well have precipitated the totality of this judgment include the extent of evil and idolatry among the Amalekites, the contamination of surrounding peoples, especially Israel, and the threat of painful loss, if not extermination, at the hand of the Amalekites (see also Joshua, “Introduction: A Moral Question”)." Hos 1:4
My mistake. Wrong verse. Read this one: 2 Kings 10:31. "Yet Jehu was not careful to keep the law of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit."
