  Is Hades then Purgatory?
Bible general Archive 1
I am not sure if this will answer your question, but it may help.

"Purgatory in Roman Catholic thought developed during the Middle Ages and hardened into dogma in reaction to the Protestant rejection of it. The Council of Trent (1545-63) declared that those who reject the doctrine of purgatory are 'anathema,' accursed....The doctrine can be seen as a distortion of biblical truth for several reasons: (1) Clear scriptural warrant is absent. The only possible supportive text is in the Apocrypha (II Macc. 12.43-45)." (Taken from the EVANGELICAL DICTIONARY OF THEOLOGY. Walter A. Elwell (ed.). Baker Books)
Just as if I had never sinned?
1 Cor 6:11
Dear brother or sister JVH0212, I well understand the point of your answer. However, I am not sure if that was the question. I have asked load to clarify if he or she was asking about the future or the present. I am aware that Balaam could not curse Israel because they were righteous in God's sight. However, God Himself spoke through the prophets of Israel's constant sin and faithlessness. Perhaps if we call sin sin, we can be more effective in battling against it. As one saved by grace through faith, I hope fervently for His coming to complete salvation and resurrection. In the meantime, I will continue to run the race, embracing the ongoing grace to repent and the everyday cleansing power of the Holy Spirit.

I'm sorry. I am confused. WHAT is your question?
  NOAH"S CURSED SON
Genesis
The scripture in question here is Genesis 9:20-27, when Ham found Noah naked, and then Shem and Japeth proceeded to clothe him. I'm not sure - it seems that Noah was really upset at Ham, Caanan's father and his younger son, seeing him naked, while his brothers clothed him without looking at him (Gen 9:23). I think the question (if that's not it, then it'll be MY question, because I'm curious) is why Caanan was cursed to be a servant. Was it just beacuse his father saw Noah naked and the sins of the father must be repaid by the son? Am I looking at it too closely?

did the curse put on the cannaanites in gen2:9 become the black race?
  did the cannaanites become black
Gen 4:15
The verse you referenced is incorrect. If you are referring to the mark put on Cain, son of Adam, then this has nothing to do with the Canaanites. The bible does not specify what the mark was. It could have been a mark on the forehead, on the hand, it could have been a overall skin color change (black, white, purple, green or whatever). No one can seriously say for sure. I would highly doubt though that the black race (or, more correctly, group - after all we are all of the human race) of people were cursed.

If you are talking about Gen 9:25 when Noah cursed Canaan (his grandson) which later his descendents became the canaanites, the Bible does not mention what the curse was other than he will be slaves to his brothers. If you are somehow interpreting that because they were made slaves, they are black then you have assumed way too much.

sins of father repaid by son?
Genesis
Ric, The NASB says "...visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children..." and the context seems say that the sin of one generation is passed on to the next, by example, not as a sin debt owed to God for 4 generations. Indeed, for man left to his own devices, this does seem to be the case. However, Jesus came that we may break this cycle. Even sons of men who do not know God (hate Him), can be set free from the curse of sin. Better yet, our children can be even closer to God if we teach them that victory earlier than we knew it. Praise the Lord Jesus.

that is the question. why?prove to me through scripture why he was cursed.you must remember this is before the law was.it wasnt until Moses came then came the Law.may be he did show irreverence. but how did he?and would that bring a cursing on his Generations?
I missed the boat. Please explain.
Genesis
i believe[ this is my opinion ]looking as the saying goes curiosity killed the cat. and even Jesus said If you even LOOK upon a woman to lust you have already sined. so looking and non action leads to sin.so Noah cursed his son, because it could lead to other things which they went through the flood for God to destroy.
What would be considered the age?
Bible general Archive 1
All are sinners and under the wrath and curse of God. Remember that God has the right to judge all mankind, not only for their own sins, but for the sins imputed to them in Adam.

So, if by some miracle, you had never ever sinned, you would still be guilty by virtue of the sin nature you have inherited. This goes for young and old, male and female. All babies are sinners and subject to the same wrath.

This is where the destructive views of Arminians enter in. Because they think man is able to choose God, they must make up an "age of accountability" where this must happen, and also excuse all infants and say God must be sending them to heaven.

However, the Bible teaches that we are saved by faith, not that we give to ourselves, but that faith is a gift from God. GOD REGENERATES US BEFORE WE ARE ABLE TO BELIEVE; or, put another way, we are enabled to believe because regenerates/saves us.

For those who cannot choose -- like the mentally ill or infants -- are they different than us? Not at all. No man with all his usual capacities is able to choose God.

God elects those whom He will save. Those who are able will express that new life by exercising faith in Christ. Those who cannot show the expression of their salvation -- such as babies, etc. -- are still saved because God has saved them.

  Another Angel Flying In Midheaven
Rev 14:6
This is the same gospel. I don't know exactly where the verse I'm thinking of is found, but Pauls says in one of his epistles that (roughly) "if we, or an angel of heaven preach to you a different gospel than the one we taught, let him be accursed; I repeat--let him be accursed." Your right; it pretty much "completes" the Great Commission in my opinion, because most, if not all, of chapter 14 of Revelation jumps forward to the end of the Tribulation Hour. It really doesn't connect to Matthew 24:14. That verse in Matthew connects w/the 7th chapter of Revelation.
  The headship of Christ
Col 3:17
My Head, my Savior is what I had in mind as to what the verses were saying. But there are other words that are not personal names that are rightly capitalized in scripture. Is there any other Rock, I know of none. There is only one Holy One. Christ is the Light of the world while we are only lights. I would also capitalize the fact that He is the Bread of life.
You mentioned the body of Christ. I didn't see it capitalized in Rom 7:4, ICor 10:l6, nor Eph 4:12. In the sense that we, the church, are the body of Christ, it should not be capitalized. Consider Colossians 3:3 however, "For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our Life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory." Capitalization of "Life" is mine.
"The name of the Lord" was also mentioned by you and that brings up two interesting examples. Lev 24:ll and II Sam 6:2. Lev 24:ll says "The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed." NASB
The New King James reads "blasphemes the name of the Lord and cursed." with "of the Lord" in italics showing that it was inferred. Even the New International version has "the Name" although it capitalizes no other pronouns, which to me denies His deity each time they use "his" name.
I hope you are understanding what I am trying to say; that capitalization shows interpretation and it is important. That is why I wondered how everyone is interpreting the "Head" in Colossians. He has to be a head before He is the Head;
He has to be a lamb in order to be the Lamb sacrificed for us; He has to be a light in order to become the Light of the world. He has to be a rock before he can be known as the only Rock; He has to be a spirit in order to be the one Spirit.
Thus, it will be difficult in our individual reading of scriptures and comparing them to know whether to capitalize or not. I think though that a good start would be consistency and testing the spirits. Does anybody see where I am coming from? See also III John 7-12.

  Who is NOT saved?
Bible general Archive 1
Who is not saved? My friend, if you interpret the scriptures as saying that all children are saved (not under the curse of Adam) and unbelieving spouses are 'automatically' saved, then add Acts 16:31 "And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your household (automatically)." (my parentheses) Since I have heard that 'household' means up to second cousins, this means allmost no one will go to hell! I agree about 'parental covering,' but Bar-mitzvahs are for Jews. The age varies, probably after 10 years old at the earliest, that's all we can know. As to 'automatic' salvation-by-kinship or marriage, that is not the entirety of the Bible. In Christ Jesus.
God can use woman in the ministry?
Gal 3:28
There are many reasons for believing that women are not called into the ministry. Some of them are what I judge to be educated reasons and some of them are less than that. I believe that good people with good intentions believe both ways. One pastor that I worked with had a group of us come together and he brought the question in a different way than I had ever heard it before. He first started out with the question who could lead, which brought us to the answer that whoever was the least was the greatest. Or put another way the leader was to be servant of all. Therefore if women can serve why can't women lead? Someone that I dealt with could not receive my teaching because they did not want me to be in authority over them. What they didn't know was I didn't want to be in authority over them, I wanted to serve them. There are many issues at stake here, tradition, the curse that pits man against women, pride, and translational difficulties. When you go from a language with gender, pastor being a male verb to a language without gender the pronouns aren't always consistant with the language being translated into. I have heard the argument that the pronouns for pastor are all male and that is why women should not be pastors. The same thing happens in Proverbs 8. I was told that because feminine pronouns were used it could not be a personification of Jesus. I think that the answer lies in a lot of areas. Many of us are not ready for change. Centuries of male dominance, the differences in the sexes, the attitudes towards women in the Bible, not by Jesus but by others, the information explosion and the education of women make this a time where we need honest evalution and study. Most people that I know don't want to go there, it is far too much work. Be patient and don't give up even on us men.
  Define the word "cult".
Bible general Archive 1
The definition as given by Walter Martin in his book Kingdom of the Cults - Bethany House Publishers is "any religious group which differs significantly in some one or more respects as to belief or practice from those religious groups which are regarded as the normative expressions of religion in our total culture." I believe this definition was taken from Bergen. Walter Martin added, "A cult might also be defined as a group of people gathered about a specific person or person's mis-interpretations of Scriptures." As Paul put it "As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!" Gal 1:9. A definition of a cult should also include any teaching or group of people that try to base salvation on works apart from grace. The biggest hinderance in dealing with cults is definitions, they use Christian terms but they mean entirely different things. Jesus to the Mormon is a spiritual brother of Lucifer. Jesus to the Jehovah Witness is a incarnation of the Angel Michael. Jesus to the Islam is a great prophet. Jesus to Bahai is another incarnation of God along with Buddha or Muhammed. Before we can fully understand a cult we must understand the definitions of the terms they are using.
  Is Lucifer Satan?
Is 14:12
Isaiah 14:12  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

King James relates this star of the morning as applying to Lucifer. It appears to support the theory that before the rebellion in Heaven Lucifer was the top Angel. His transgression earned him banishment from Heaven to the earth, where because of his adverse conflict with God, he was renamed Satan, or an enemy of God.

There is another portion of scripture from 2 Peter 2:4  For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

Jude 1:6  And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Matthew 25:41  Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

All of these verses seem to indicate that Lucifer, who was banished to the earth with a third of the Angels, and Satan, or the Devil, are one and the same character.
What unmarried sexual acts are sinful?
Bible general Archive 1
"... but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you.... If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you...." Matthew 5:28-30
The issue is not primarily one of action alone but one of willful inclination, attitude and thought. Just as pusuing adulterous thoughts equals adultery, pursuing thoughts about intercourse outside of marriage equals fornication. Likewise, willfully placing oneself in a position of temptation and-or stimulation of sexual hunger is sin. I can not claim to be without sin in this regard. However, that doesn't change the gravity of the act. We are to "flee immorality" even above other sins (1 Cor 6:18) and to "flee from youthful lusts" (2 Tim 2:22).
Of course there is forgiveness for the person who has already foolishly done this and repentantly comes to God seeking transformation (1 Jn 1:9); You (like myself or any other repentant sinner who comes humbly to Christ in confession and repentance) are currently purified from past sins. However, this is never an excuse for deliberately moving away from God by going down the road of chosen disobedience and pursuit of temptation (Gal 5:13).
God gives grace to deliver us from naturally occurring temptations, but this includes waiting expectantly for the way of escape and taking it as soon as it becomes available (1 Cor 10:13). The best route is always to avoid temptation. There is no simple set of rules of conduct as to what is safe and what is not. The effect on the conscience and the pusuit of the excitement of temptation is not identical for everyone, and it's easy to rationalize away the sins that others can't see. Based on reports of my own and others' personal experience, I'm convinced that it is specifically the stimulation of this "sexual enticement and excitement" (either in oneself or in one's partner) that makes most (physical or fantasized) out-of-wedlock sexual contact attractive.
As an additional note, seeking to stimulate urges in another is no less sinful than doing it in oneself. "It is inevitable that stumbling blocks come, but woe to him through whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea, than that he would cause one of these little ones to stumble. Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him." (Luke 17:1-3). This passage also assumes close enough relationships with brothers as to allow accountability; this is a big help in such situations. Be careful to seek counsel from people with holy and repentant lives and not to look for counsel that merely affirms the decisions you are considering; this is not a natural thing to do when facing appealing temptations.
Take heart. Holiness is a blessing, not a curse, and God has provided access to all you need for long-term and lasting victory.
" No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
  You can lose your salvation
Luke 23:26
You are right no one can take you out of God's hand. If you go back into and live in sin you will not enter heaven. What do we do with this? The devil knows the word and he even believes in the Son of God. Will he enter into heaven? Not according to God who says no sin shall enter in.You are right blasphemy is unforgivable. How many ways can this blasphemy be done? To speak irrevently of God or matters that are sacred. To desecrate by impious talk, taking God's name in vain, to curse to swear. GOD IS THE ONLY ONE PERFECT AND HOLY. We can only be perfect and holy in His eyes, we never will be in mans eyes.I thank God for His love and grace. God bless you today!!
What if Jesus hadn't been crucified?
Heb 9:22
GOD is Holy or perfect, without blemish. If GOD were to accept anyone who is not perfect He would not be perfect. I picture it like this, if you got a 100 percent on a test, and you had to keep your 100, could you average you score with anyone who got below a 100 percent? No, because that would make your grade something below 100, even if I got a 99.9999 our average grade would not be perfect!

So, GOD had to make us perfect. To do this, someone had to live a perfect life, to be worthy. But, someone also had to find a way to wash away the sins of the other people who would be forgiven. Heb. 9:22 says sins cannot be forgiven without the shedding of blood. Jesus had to be crucified be cause:
first, GOD is Just and for human sin there must be a human sacrifice, this is why the sacrifical system in the OT is a "foreshadow" check Heb. again the blood of bulls cannot wash away sin.
Second, the sacrifice has to be perfect because an imperfect sacrifice cannot cleanse anything! But, this causes a huge problem! How can a just GOD kill a perfectly righteous human being (Jesus)? He had to go to a cross because, it is a curse to hang on a tree! See Galations! So that's why he went to the cross! Hope this helps! GOD bless!!
  You can lose your salvation
Luke 23:26
He sees us as righteous ONLY when we live for Him.ALL sin will keep us out.No sin shall enter. We stop sinning when we ask for forgivness and ask Jesus into our hearts, ALTHOUGH we may sin and not be aware, that is why daily we need to say God forgive me if I have done any wrong today. He is faithful and just to forgive, if we make a mistake, BUT I fear not if we continue knowing we sin. When we are saved Jesus comes in to live in our hearts, He will stay but we have to keep our hearts pure and clean in God's eyes. Our righteousness is as filthy rags according to the bible, it is only he who is righteous. God cursed our flesh and called it sin. Our hearts are what counts. God knows the flesh wants to rise up and do wrong. In Matt it says "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" God knows our weakness. Thank God for His grace and forgivness, when we have a truly repentant heart, and do our best to live according to His will for us.He wants our Love and Obediance. The bible says "Obediance is better than sacrifice" Have a blessed day in Christ...Our bodies will not enter in because they are called sin by God, our souls will return to Him.
  where do blacks come from?
Bible general Archive 1
Just ran across this site and had to give a response. Sorry, I'm in a hurry and don't have all the specific, biblical references handy, but will, in another post, if necessary. I believe a better question might be "Where do those that are not Black come from ?" Unbiased secular science has already backed up what we all know, that all human life came from "A Woman". It is a scientific fact that a gene called "melanon" sp?, is responsible for the color of a persons skin. The more melanon you have, the darker you are. Albinoes are the result of a severe to total lack of this gene. It is also a fact that 2 parents with little melanon, CANNOT have a child that has more melanon !! Unless, there is a recessive gene- a gene that skips a generation or 2. In this case the only way that 2 parents could have a darker child is if a grandparent or great grandparent was of a darker color than the parents. Although, 2 parents with "lots" of melanon can have children of varying shades, even albinoes. BTW, there are blacks that are classified as albinoes. Simply put, Adam and Eve couldn't of been "white", based on proven science and the Bible. Racism has stated that blacks came from the curse of Noah on Ham, but if you read the actual text in context, the curse has nothing to do with skin color, since Noah had to be a person of color. Gen 9:25 "Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants He shall be to his brethren." If you read through verse 27 you will see that Ham's son Canaan and Canaan's offspring, those nations would be servants to the nations that would come from the brothers of Ham.

"For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
