Is Interracial marriage supported in the Bible?
I have completed a study tonight after recently
wondering if the Bible supports or does not support
marriage between two people of a different race (I am
referring to a Male/Female marriage of course, since
homosexuality and lesbianism is forbidden [Gen. 19:5;
Lev. 18:22-23,20:13; Deut. 23:17; Judg. 19:22-24; 1
Kings 14:24,15:12; Rom. 1:24-27; 1 Cor. 6:9-10].
Polygamy is also forbidden [Lev. 18:18; Deut. 17:17;
Titus 1:6]).
Now you must understand me: I have a great and healthy
respect for all people since we are all one in Christ
(Gal. 3:28). In fact, skin color is the Creator's
choice (Jer. 13:23), and a black man named Simon (of
Cyrene, which was a city in North Africa) helped Jesus
carry His cross (Mark 15:21). I have many friends who
are of a different race than I am and that is not the
aim or goal of this study. My question is: Does the
Bible permit people of different race to intermarry?
First of all, there are situations in the Bible that
condemn interracial marriage. Isaac sought a wife
from his own father's family (Gen. 24:1-4) and so did
Jacob (Gen. 27:46-28:2). The Israelites were
commanded not to intermarry (Ex. 34:16; Deut. 7:3-4;
Ezra 9:1-2,12; Neh. 10:30, 13:23-27; Josh. 23:12-13),
but this was mostly on the basis of leading the people
astray through foreign gods (Mal. 2:11; Deut. 17:17;
1 Cor. 7:39).
However, God did permit the Israelites to marry
foreign women in other situations: captives from war
(Deut. 21:10-13), and because of a 'shortage' of women
(Judges 21:21-23). Timothy, the youthful early church
leader, was a half-Jew (Acts 16:1) and Moses's wife
Zipporah was an Ethiopian woman (Num. 12:1).
The Bible does not clearly state whether or not God's
people should marry interracially, but it does say
that the partner should be a believer in Christ (1
Cor. 7:39, 2 Cor. 6:14). It is interesting to note that all nations and people are important to God (Amos 9:7) and having black skin
is beautiful (Song Of Solomon 1:5-6). Jesus usurped
the racist traditions of the Israelites (Matt.
15:21-28; Luke 10:25-37) and the Bible even speaks
of 'hatred without reason' (Psalm 69:4) and anti-Semitism
(Esther 3:8-9, 5:10-14). Also, Gentiles are despised,
the Israelites are despised (Gen. 43:32) and
foreigners are excluded from fellowship (Neh.
13:1-3). The Bible also encourages freedom from slavery (1 Cor. 7:21; The book of Exodus)
In conclusion, interracial marriage is not against the will of God based upon the Bible. It remains a
question of being yoked/unequally yoked in fellowship
with God Himself and choosing a husband/wife that
will help you to enrich your walk in the Lord (1 Cor. 7:35).
I wanted to share this with you, since I was wondering what the Bible specifically said about such things. Feel free to tell me how you agree/disagree.

Nolan,
This is an excellent question that has caused many Christians to create great harm to others with unbiblical advice.
The only forbidding we have from God in regards to marriage is found in 2 Cor.6:14. We are not to marry unbelievers and I think it could also be proven that we should avoid marrying those with major theological differences than our own.
God does not forbid us from marrying anyone on the basis of race.

Thanks Sam, we both agree that God does not restrict or forbid marriage on the basis of race. I also agree that to be 'unequally yoked' also includes a marriage where there are major theological differences, although I am certainly against divorce! :) |

Glossaalaia( glossa) A term, first used in english around 1879, referring to the religious phenomenon of speaking with tongues. It comes from glossaislalein,a greek phrase used in the new testament withch literally means "to speak in [or "with"or "by"]tongues." It was introduced in Acts 2:1-4 as an accompanying sign of the filling of the Holy spirt (apparently only Jews recieved the holy spirit and spoke in tongues at the time). Other instances occurred in Acts 10(when Gentiles experenced it) and in Acts 19 ( when "religious" persons already baptized"unto John's baptism" were re-baptized, filled with the spirit and spoke in tongues).

Do the laws of fornication in the bible apply to the times of today? They state that the only reason a divorce is justifiable is in the case of adultery, what about all the other horrible things that can happen in ones marriage? i.e. abuse, threatening ones life, etc. |

Greetings to you, first of all God's law never changes. What He said then still applies today.
2Corinthians 13:11b says for us to "live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. God's purpose for man is to forgive as He forgives.
Yes there's many horrible things that can happen in a marriage, especially when God is not in the center of the relationship. Self centered, jealously and other traits as can be very harmful in a relationship, and if you mix that with alcohol or drugs, that's dynamite ready to explode. Whaterver your situation I pray that if you are in that relationship, that you will seek Godly council and safe shelter until the situation is under control. In some cases of abuse, the abuser is in someway crying out for help.
May the God of peace guide you.

Scripture ... Matt 19:1-12; Mark 10:1-12; 1 Cor 7:12-16 ...
vjeffers@ipcl.com, Greetings.
This has been previously discussed. Use Quick Search and type [divorce] ... you'll get more than you want.
In Matthew 19:1-12 and Mark 10:1-12 divorce is granted because of the HARDNESS of the heart (Matt 19:8, Mark 10:5) of the "innocent" person. I contend that adultery doesn't justify divorce.
If there is a divorce, neither may remmary to someone else. It would cause the other person to commit adultery.
The only grounds that divorce is justified, is if the unbeliever leaves and the unbeliever files for divorce (1 Cor 7:12-16).
Hope this helps.Searcher |

Hello hopeful lady, but God will never leave you! Do you believe that God hears you? Of course you do, then walk as you believe. For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2Corinthians 5:7. I feel you, but God is definetly at work. Hebrews 3:18-19
"And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief. Hebrews 4:1-2 "Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. NIV
I said that, to say this, "rest"
God's blessings to you on this day |

Deut 30:6-10
6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
7 And the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.
8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
9 And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:
10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

This is for Hopeful and Angel, re 2 Cor 5:8.I love the way God intertwines the lives of His children to help them learn and to help confirm what they have learned. This question was asked to me by my Mom just a couple of weeks ago. She had been taught the spirit sleeps in the body until Christ's second coming. I told her that I believed we went to be with Christ.
Then, like a coincidence (if that is what you like to call it), our pastor happened to mention Sunday the same thing Angel 1 said...we go to be with our Lord the instant we die and then are returned to our glorified bodies when He returns.
Also, Luke 8:55 states "Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up." This is the section in which Jesus brings the little girl back to life. To me, if the little girl's spirit returned it must have left, not gone to sleep or wouldn't the scripture have stated something like, "He awoke her"? It is also interesting that Luke, the physician, wrote this, a doctor, who, history tells, was a stickler for details. God bless both of you, I know we will meet someday in heaven. |

Yet there is a big (MAJOR) difference between the girl healed, and Lazarus and anyothers that are raised from the dead in the Bible and that of the resurrection of our Body latter in the last day
that raising of the damsel is more like a healing, she still dies later, as does Lazuras.
Where did their spirits go? we do not know there is no mention of them testifying about a "white light" or of strolling through "flowers of gold" or of pleading with God not to have to go back. :) It seems they are quite happy and thankful to return. So it is more likely in those cases that they may have been unconscience. But we don't really know. We do know that when we die, we go to be with the Lord.

Tongues?Ecstatic Utterances or Languages |

2 Corinthians

according to a close examination of Paul's statements in 1 Cor 14 it is obvious that the tongues Paul prayed in more than all the corinthians was such that he did not understand it himself. So if Paul did not understand it, then it was not a language he learned by natural processes. If it was a language that someone on the planet knew Paul did not know what or who knew it. So the safest answer is that Yes on the day of Pentecost there were many that heard their own language coming from men that had not learned. There is no reason to think that the 120 knew what they were saying... Paul said he could not understand his tongues and so he would pray to himself and to God in tongues and then at times he would pray to himself and to God in his understanding (greek or hebrew or both I suppose) So the answer might be that some one on the planet would recognize it or maybe not, but the fact that no one was going to even be around when Paul was praying in tongues between himself and God demomstrates that that would be a mute (pardon the pun) point. Even if you do not know which or any language it is it is still edifying to excercise the gift of praying in tongues. Now in the Church (not between yourself and God) you still would need and interpreter. So Paul mentions the gift of interpretation, not the art of language, the one that exercised the gift of interpretation was operating in the Spiritual gift and would then speak what the other said in tongues in the common language of the congregation.
Does all this sound wierd to you? This is how the first church allowed God to have His way in their midst and it is how charismatics still do.
You can see all these Holy Spirit gifts still in operation in the church today.
