Good to hear from you.
You write: "Tongues does not seem to be a basic doctrine." When I was writing my previous post, I used "basic" for want of a better word. (I'm not sure what word I should have used, but "basic" wasn't it. Probably I should have used the word primary or fundamental.)
Like you, I think you and I might agree more than we disagree. By the way, you can read what I believe about any number of Bible subjects by using the Search function whose link appears in the upper left hand portion of the Forum page. When the Search page comes up, under "were submitted by user" type in the name kalos
I commend you on your re-evaluation of what you've been taught. You have the right idea. That's the best thing anyone can do. In recent years I've been doing it myself. I have learned much through forum participation and have had to rethink and sometimes re-align my views to line up with what the Bible says. It is my pleasure to admit when I am wrong and gain a better, more accurate understanding of the Bible.
I will gladly tell you my understanding of what the Bible teaches about tongues, but I'll do that in a separate Note, which I'll start on right now. In fact, what I should do is post the best arguments I've found for and against tongues being for today. Then I'll tell you what I personally believe. That would make 3 posts.
