Importance of the Word |

Dear Brad,
I do not know all of the nuances of Webster's thinking, but he also wrote, "If there is anything in my thoughts or style to commend, the credit is due to my parents for instilling in me an early love of the Scriptures." Given his assertions of the authority of Scripture, and the prodigious amount that he committed to memory in his life, and the repeated emphasis he placed on its importance, it seems to me unlikely that Webster (per post #219079) was suggesting that other literature could supplant the Word itself. Instead, note his emphasis of the crucial necessity of the dissemination of the Word to "every hamlet."
