Gadrifter58: The KJV is written at a 12th to 13th grade reading of today. I grew up on the KJV and managed very well. But most everyone else did as well.

Todat mush better translations like the NASB are far better in accuracy and use language that more people of today can read and understand. I believe the NASB is at the 10th grade level. The Niv is at the 6th grade reading level. News papers of today are at a 5th grade reading level.

  For one....Daniel 3; 25. KJV vs NIV.

This site is a good study of Bible translation comparisons.

  Greetings Preston:

Thanks for the clarification.

Here is what the study note from the Net Bible says about this phrase:

"The phrase like that of a god is in Aramaic "like that of a son of the gods." Many patristic writers understood this phrase in a christological sense (i.e., "the Son of God"). But it should be remembered that these are words spoken by a pagan who is seeking to explain things from his own polytheistic frame of reference; for him the phrase "like a son of the gods" is equivalent to "like a divine being.""

So, there argument is that the plural is more faithful to what the phrase would have meant to this pagan king. In fact, most of the commentaries that I checked accepted the NIV's translation as the better choice.

Personally, I probably would have used the singular and included the above information in the study note.

Your Brother in Christ,

Tim Moran

  Tim,

I understand your comments. However, it is a "slant" of which we can find many.... in different translations.

We must remember there are only three things we need to know from the Bible to receive eternal salvation;
1) We must repent of our sins...I believe the Bible teaches we must do that outwardly...in front of the world, at the alter...acknowledging G-d as our creator and ask Him for forgiveness of our sins.
2)I believe the Bible teaches that we must be baptized...a symbolic washing in the Blood of The Lamb thereby acknowledgeing Him as Our Savior.
3) We then must live a righteous life by following His Law..the Ten Commandments.

The Bible presents these basic things in many different ways...designed to be understood by all.

Who the scarlet clothed lady on the horse in Rev. 16-17...while interesting to study...has nothing to do with our Salvation.

We must be reminded...Atheists, agnostics and other AC folks come in the back door attempting infusing of conflict and degredation of G-ds' word while going to the bank with millions for a new translation. Shame on we Christians who participate in the process and fail to object..strongly!

I,for one will have no part in that process.

  Preston,

Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

I find this verse to differ somewhat with your list. And my church sadly does not have an altar. We are in serious trouble!

In Christ, Beja

When we do those three things...faith is inherent.

There is no void.
9 NIV...Gods...? Note Bible general Beja Thu 05/3/12, 11:40am 232132
  Preston,

I will continue to preach salvation in Christ alone, through faith alone, by grace alone. Scripture does not render faith as "assumed" in its message and neither shall I.

Gal 2:15 "We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles;
Gal 2:16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

Php 3:9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,

Rom 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."
Rom 4:4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due.
Rom 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."

I place my hope in nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust my sweetest frame but wholely lean on Jesus' name.

Christ purchases obedience for us, our obedience does not purchase Christ for us.

Psa 119:146 I call to you; save me, that I may observe your testimonies.

Salvation causes obedience. Obedience does not cause salvation. The order you seek them in makes all the difference in the world.

In Christ, Beja
